Is it illegal now to cloak affiliate links with redirects?

I don't do affiliate sales, I'm just curious because I remember hearing something about this a year ago but I don't know if the law ever got passed or whatever.

And don't you have to identify your affiliate links as affiliate links now? Like "blah blah blah resveratrol acai steroid forex viagra super pill blah blah, oh and by the way, if you buy through that link I make a little commission"?

    So I'm asking 2 questions:

    1) are redirects/cloaked links still allowed? (I mean like so when you mouseover it says www.mydomain.com/somepage (which redirects you) instead of www.affiliate.com/ID=273827ckshcjdkshcksjd8374927)

    2) do you have to declare that it's an affiliate link (or can you just mention it on your "privacy policy" page)?

    j/w. thanks.

I don't see why it would be illegal to cloak but yes you should still put something in the privacy policy just in case if your sending lots of traffic

I can't remember the reasoning. Honestly I didn't even care when I heard about it cuz I don't sell affiliate things. I'm just curious now.

What does sending traffic have to do with the privacy policy?

NO it's not illegal ... and not against any TOS either...

If you want to cloak links then use a simple .php script that you upload to your root folder.

Google "Redirect php script" -- it's a 2 lines piece of code, extremely easy to use.

The traffic thing is just because people who are sending lots of traffic to an affiliate network get lots more attention
