I've updated posts and pages all the time and never really had a problem with traffic from google, other than the usual google dance.

You really think -40 rep spammer will provide you anything to back up their claims?

You have the starting rep of 10, not -40. I think it is a valid point to highlight that gowthamkumar has a -40 rep and to disregard what he says.

In terms of the ops question, all indexed means is that Google has crawled the page and stuck it in their index. Updating content is good, you shouldn't be scared of doing it but as it is a blog, just write new articles. You should have specific landing pages that you promote and with a blog these are your category pages. Building links to 1000 different pages is daft, build them to the landing pages and use internal links within the article to push the landing page.

Bizarre suggestions I am seeing in this thread... o_O
People.. Google likes updated and fresh content..
Its actually preferred to update your pages with some fresh content every now and then..
Stale and outdated content < fresh and updated content..

Unless you are planning to update your old pages with duplicate or spammy(keyword stuffing etc) content, I don't see how this can negatively affect your website.
