So we all learn to post over tons of other blogs to create backlinks.....

BUT... will it help our rankings if we allow all these other marketers and people to post spam or comments on our blogs?

How much postings do you guys allow on your blog?

Didn't know if it helps or hurts allowing spam comments.

It's definitely a good thing to allow comments on your blog if your looking at it from an SEO perspective. Comments will add more to the existing content and help your page rank better.

I allow comments on my blog. Just make sure you don't allow comments with bad english or too many spelling mistakes (correct mistakes if you want to), and remove any links or keywords, pointing back to any IM website. That way you get free content from some guys well written spun comment, which he posted using scrapebox :)

A few are fine but too many makes your OBL crazy and you won't benefit from it.

But that said..you do see AA blogs with 10k+ comments and yet they still have PR5 lol

I think it is bad. Mostly because it is very hard to check each link that comes in for porn, gambling, etc, my hosting service doesn't allow porn, so it so much easier to just delete all of the links request once per month.

With my work with a client, who has a very high authority blog, comments have only helped. Many of his blog posts have hundreds of comments, 50% of which are relevant and 50% are standard praises, but well written. His pages are doing very well in the SERPS, and have a PR of 3+ and a few have a PR of 5+.

I've taught him how to identify comments posted by IMers and then remove the link from the commentator's name. That way he gets too keep a very well written comment without passing any link juice. LOL!

It can be good and it cant.

Not good , Because there are spammers who may comment on your blog and the comment may look un-natural and non-related to your site.

Good, If a real person comes to your blog and posts a relative and genuine comment aswell as a link back to his site which is also in your niche then it would be worthwhile :)

For weeding out those types of links, you can always install Askimet. It catches almost off of the porn, gambling, etc type of shady links. ;)

I don't allow comments without proper beforehand moderation. Simply because it might get me b& from adsense who knows maybe some idiots are smart enough to obfuscate porn / gambling / illicit stuff by entering dots between characters and letters.

Always barricade yourself, don't trust anyone, question everything. They are all your enemies. On the internet, you fight with your claws.

It is a good idea. It lets users interact with each other and the blog owner. Obviously you need to get rid of the spam as that won't benefit you at all but this can be beneficial. If users see that there are people commenting on your blog then it can draw other people to comment as well.

Wow..... You guys jumped all over my post. Thanks for the feedback...

Yeah I am definitely not going to allow auto posting.... I will be manually approving them because I only get 10-20 a day so far but your replies have helped enlighten me.

It's good if they're good comments, but I just think it'd be a lot of work/time/effort to moderate them and see if they actually are good. Especially if you have to edit them to take out links! If you think it's worth the time to do that,t hen do it. But I personally think you could be doing something better with that time.

Just make sure not to approve spammy comments with spammy keywords and links.

Next thing you know, you'll be a part of an AA list shared on BHW and you'll get a million comments pending for approval. Haha!

Comments are fresh content which is always good. As long as you don't allow any links and the comments are well written then they are definitely worth having on your blog.

depends on the amount of time you have and the type of site your doing. if you want interaction and you have the time to filter the comments get akismet and then manualy approve the posts that make it past akismet. if you just make a quickie site that you dont plan on updating much or isnt worth the time investment then just auto delete the comments.

Yes, definitely install akismet. It will protect you from a lot of spam.

Course it's good. Just make sure you are using Akismet and/or some other anti-spam plugin.

Comments make google think - hey this page is popular. The more comments on a page the better in Google's eye.. HOWEVER- the more comments the more outbound links you will have as well. The best would be to have all outbound links be masked, there might be a plugin, or you could build one that automatically cloaks outbound comment links, or just adding no-follow would be cool too.

    Cloaking: http://yoururl.com/go/commenters-site
Nofollog: ad rel="nofollow" to the comments...

There are wordpress plugins for these type of scenarios...
