Is it good or bad targetting same KW, with two articles in the same website ?

Hi, one of my writers (and me) made mistake, and he wrote the same article already published again, with different contents of course,
the first article were wrote 10 says ago and the new one I didn't publish it yet,
I have never done this before, how G search engine will react in such situation ?

keyword cannibalization is not good, and might rank neither of the 2 articles. But, since you didn't publish both of them yet I don't see any problem. Just use the non-published article as a guest post on a quality website

I, personally, would not. You can and it's "fine", but I still wouldn't.

The way I've always handled my content has been:

- 2,000+ words minimum.
- In between 3 - 7% keyword density for my main keyword.
- Targeting at least 3 keywords per article with one main & two sub-keywords of the same niche.
- Proper on-page SEO. (videos, images, etc) Properly expressed here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/guide-full-example-of-how-to-do-on-page-seo.1251425/

I put a lot into my content and it's seemed to have been worth it.

That is a no-no, Google will treat it as keyword cannibalization and punish your website for it. As mentioned before put the other article on a high authority website

If it is an authority site, this will not have much negative effect. But if you plan to have limited content on the site, you should avoid this.

You can publish the 2nd and insert an optimized internal link to the main article

Don't publish second one. Update it with a different keyword. Use a seo plugin like rankmath or yoast , it will always give you a warning if you repeat keyword.

You can always publish both, check which ranks better, keep the one that ranks better, and pick the other contents and try to do a mix with both to get a longer and more comprehensive content.

Alright guys, here is what I'm going to do I'll 301 redirect the first article since it was poorly written (I fired the writer already), and keep the second one
I was thinking remove all KW (even in the title) from the second article and publish it and put a link for the first one, but still the second article contents are pretty good if I kept first article it will get high bounce rate for sure .

it may be cannibalization as others have stated, but atleast you'll have one of the two potentially rank still. its not the worst to just keep them and keep creating more content after this.
