yea #1 spot is help by stupid wiki page of my niche...
is it hard to beat?
In low competition, Yes. I have done it numerous times even with a .info domain
good question i was wondering the same thing.
It's possible, a keyword friendly domain helps.
Is the wikipedia page for the exact keyword or just related to the keyword? If it's for the exact keyword, it will be a lot harder to beat.
It depends. I had an EMD .info of a famous sport celebrity and I got it ranked for #2 spot beating wikipedia to #3 spot in less than a couple of weeks. The #1 spot was the official site (.com EMD) of that celebrity.
And if you have an EMD, and very targeted backlinks, then it will be helpful.
I have done it good number of times so far... It's little tough but not impossible...
The thread look inspirational. I never though Wikipedia is beatable for exact match keyword but it look like it's possible.
I tried to beat them with an exact match
And found correlation between monthly global search (Google) and the success rate
It's possible of course. It really depends on the keyword. You can do it if you do it right. Like others have mentioned. An EMD is a huge advantage and makes it a lot easier.
Separate names with a comma.
