I'm thinking of making some fake pages to get my follower count up..

I seen some people make fake "cash me outside" pages and get 10k+ (likely mostly real) followers.

I'm thinking of trying this, and at 10k or whatever, I bait and switch it to something that the demographic would like ... and sell shoutouts and similar shit.

Any experience with this tactic? Building up the niche, and then changing the page once you get a comfortable amount of followers?

changing niche usually kills engagement you lose some followers, its not really recommended.
Just start with the niche you want and go from there.

It sounds much easier said than done.

And after you get the followers, consider you somehow manage to get them, the new niche of the page would play a major role. If the followers don't remember liking the page and don't like what they see, they might start unfollowing in large numbers.

But let's say if you do it right and everything goes well, you're looking at a cash cow!

    Yea i hear you

I may keep it in the same niche ... I.E

if i get a bunch of stupid 13 year olders to follow me, i just post similar shit that 13 year olders are probably into ... like Entertainment news about Kim Kardashian and TMZ type stories ... that would branch off to me being able to easily get an older demographic too once I take the focus off cash me outside....

I just don't know if Instagram bans pages that use the bait and switch tactic.

So, let's say you could gain +100k followers who are in the range of 13-17

Who do you think will buy a shoutout on it? They are kids and teens who probably doesn't have any money to buy anything from any store

You have to consider these kind of things in your mind before you start

Yep, what @Geka said. Makes no sense working an account that you can't monetize later on. Same for memes. Everyone loves them, no one will usually buy anything from those types of accounts. It's pretty much like watching Trump just to see what new oxymoron stuff he says. You just shake your head, but I don't see his China made ties being sold out, or being sold in too many places.

nope there is no ban for switching. people post portraits then decide to post a food photo, they get no ban. others post memes, then post a photo of pets - no ban. as long as the photos are yours and aren't nudity or against TOS, you can post whatever the hell you like. but switching niches will cost you big in followers. Anywhere from 30-70% may leave your account.
