I'm just choosing my domain name. Let's say my keyword is rocky mountain biking. Is it best to have a domain like "rocky-mountain-biking" (i.e with hyphens) or "bestrockymountainbiking" (with a prefix)?

    Thanks

It is not "best". It is also not a "bad thing" as some people will tell you. It makes a small difference. The main difference is how it looks to the visitor.

I meant best out of the two options. Is there a better option for SEO or does it not matter?

Out of those two options, I would use it without a hyphen.

I normally just use hypens for domains that may cause confusion. For example, if the domain had a few words and the last character of one word is the first letter of the second - sometimes people get confused and just type it once and go to the wrong site.

If you have the option to not have hyphens, as in if the domain is available to be bought without hyphens, then go without. If you need it with hyphens, there is no "huge disadvantage" or anything like that. You will be fine.

As others have already said, I would probably go for one without hyphens, if for the simple fact that people often forget to put them in when they go to a website. If I were to choose a hyphen domain, I would limit it to one.

I'd say forget about going for an EMD all together, they look spammy, and for SEO when you have an EMD, you need to be alot more careful not to over-optimise the site on page. But to choose between the two options you've given, I'd go for the prefix for the same reasons others have said.

If you are using it for you physical business, better to choose a brand name rather than keywords domain. Montoya is a good brand domain name to me :)

If you observe the search result you will find that very rare you will find pages from domain with dash . For this I prefer domain without hypen obviously for SEO.

their nothing as best or good or better in domain names... ultimately what matters is how it appears to the user or the viewer... if it looks good to them then any of the domain names will work for you

Instead of best or better try to make the domain name look catchy.. Try with alternatives like cycling instead of common prefixes or hyphens!

    no hyphen is best.
I read a review a few months ago where they tested a domain name with and without hyphen. Both had similar spun content.
The conclusion was that they found that google did not liked hyphens

Hyphens were a thing years ago. They're useless today for SEO and who the heck types hyphens?

I don't see any seo advantage or disadvantage of using hyphens or prefix... I have seen both kind of sites ranking in search engine... Reason why you don't see many good sites with hyphens because it's not user friendly, you can't expect people to remember your domain name with hyphens...

Also EMD is thing of past or better to say not big advantage any more. So choose name wisely some thing which can represent your blog and easy to remember and then go back to normal development and promotion...

Professionals will never use Hyphens in domain.

We know that good domains are not easily available and if they are available then they are high in prices. So people often use Hyphens.

    Advantages of Using Hyphens:
    1. Domain Will Be Easily Avaliable
    2. Will Help in SEO Same as the Real Domain without Hyphens

    Disadvantages:
    1. Looks A Fake Copy
    2. Not Professional Obviously
    3. People Will not it much seriously.

    Thanks
