I think as long as your alt tag has your main keyword you should be ok :). I have done that in the past and as far as SEO goes everything was ok...

I think an image would be better for SEO (+ alt tag, + image title) , it's also better for the visitors

Image for website title, H1 for page-specific topic.

Use the image for your logo, it's more user-friendly. Using CSS, you can tailor the look of your H1 tag so that it looks like anything you want. Nowadays, H-tags really shouldn't be used so much for looks as they should be used for structure to help the search engine understand the content of the page. H1 denotes the main topic of the page. H2 is for secondary points about the topic. H3 is for points about each of the H2 subtopics and so on.

By not using H1 as the site logo, you will be able to use a unique H1 for each page that is tailored specifically to the keywords you are targeting within that particular page. You should only have 1 H1 tag per page. This is the optimal setup.

Definitely H1 with your keyword in it without being spammy. Be careful also, guys, as many wordpress themes are built to use H1 for the site name/logo, H2 for the post titles, and H3 for all widget headings.

Stick with one H1 tag per page. For your other titles, use H2,H3,H4,.. and so on.

People who say use H1 for the name of your site don't know what they are talking about. If you have pages about different topics, why would you ever want the same H1 on every page? It makes 0 sense whatsoever. Reserve the H1 tag for a topic that is specific to the particular page. Be careful of bad advice - there are a lot of fakers here.
