I really want everyone's opinion, is it bad if you ask for upfront payment (50% or 100% it doesn't matter)?

50% is perfectly fine. I got burned a few times so don't make that mistake. I am pretty sure here on the forum there are plenty of people who got scammed by not asking for at least something. If you have a legit business and everything is on paper, no one should be afraid to pay you 50% before the work.

I think it is situation-specific and varies from client to client depending on how much trust you and customer have on each other, preferable option is to ask for upfront payment.

I always ask for upfront payment, 60 % to make sure I deal with honnest clients only.

Problem is I don't have anything on paper
Well then, ask for 20% and you can work out with the client like you complete some work, they pay you another 20% so you both are sure that this is working.

No, it's not. If you are on a good position like Jr. VIP, Executive except yellow badges in BHW then anyone can trust on them and pay upfront payment.
But sometimes you have to trust on them too like MOD for me as they are on highest post as compare to me and the trust which i have them. So when they post work or ask me for work i never ask for upfront payment because i know they pay me anytime, i don't want to worry.

The bad and good both thing is here that people never trust on newbie specially because MOD have to handle SHITLIST, which is there job but it's hard to handle for them and just because of SHITLIST you are easily take the work.

So for me It's not a bad thing to take upfront payment but you have to be in that position or designation i can say.

I'd suggest it's a must if you're dealing with new clients. You never know if they'll get your payment sorted as soon you deliver the work.
