Hello so I currently do not own any businesses and I'm not very sure on the whole process...

But is giving the SSN to Paypal a safe thing to do? I just want to use Paypal as a personal account for now (just to buy things online, that's about it for now) so is it safe in that sense?

I've heard about EIN but to get an EIN don't you have to be a business owner? Please help me out here, so is giving the SSN a wise choice in my scenario?

    Advice?

Safe how? They won't steal it from you and share it elsewhere, if that's what you meant. Your data is safe with them.

What you can do is try to buy without adding your SSN and see if it works or not. If the SSN is a requirement, they will ask you to add it anyway. But even if it's not a requirement from the beginning, you still can be asked to add it for verification purposes at any point, when they put a temporary hold on your account for any reason, which happens quite frequently with new accounts, but maybe you can get away without adding the SSN, if you want to use the account only for buying.

In my opinion, you could let it be free !

Only at some point, on or before 20k /200 transactions, you will have to provide SSN or EIN-TIN. It won't satisfy the IRS. Their guidline says that they have to get your SSN / EIN for reporting purposed OR withhold 30% of your gross sales. Somehow, I don't see PayPal doing that - it would be easier for them to close the account.

I think it's always safer to keep your SSN hidden.
But in case if you will use account just for buying items, then you can provide ssn and don't need to worry about anything.
