I have read here and there that we should stay away from Hostgator now, since its now taken over by EIG (same company as ipower etc.)
Whats your experience with them so far? Thanks

Has this been confirmed? It was a rumor based on a supposed e-mail to HG employees. I have not seen anything official from either company. Maybe they are trying to keep it hush hush.

Yes they are owned by EIG now. I don't think their hosting is that different but I believe they share tech support with EIG, which is not really a good thing.

Aww man... that sucks. I hope it is only just a rumor. I host a few websites with hostgator. Guess it is time to start searching for a new host service.

This is news to me. I don't use HostGator, but it's a shame they sold off.

EIG's wikipedia page says they're owners of HostGator now...And they're also owners of JustHost...

    ...HostGator is doomed...

For your consideration, the list of popular webhosts EIG owns:
    BlueDomino
    BlueHost
    Dollar2Host
    Domain.com
    DomainHost
    Dot5Hosting
    eHost
    FatCow
    Homestead Technologies
    HostCentric
    HostClear
    HostMonster
    Intuit Websites
    iPage.com
    JustHost
    NetFirms
    PureHost
    ReadyHosting.com
    SuperGreen Hosting
    VPSLink
    + More

And they are the proprietors of SiteLock.

Getting to be looking like it's setting itself up to be too big to fail...

I got a dedicated server and canceled my 3 shared hosting accounts. Filled out all of the necessary forms to cancel and 3 months went by where they still charged my credit card. As far as hosting, I see no difference.

Damn! Really? I just made a cancellation request and I am hoping it will go through quickly, but it seems to be taking awhile.

Support is slow! It took them over 24 hours to respond to some of my support tickets.

Not seen much difference in the web hosting, but have seen a a difference in there support, very poor support i received when i had a problem, which made me shift hosting providers.

So, far I haven't noticed any change with hostgator. Maybe it will take a little longer for us to notice the change especially with customer support.

I have been with them now for a while, and have no bad word to say. The customer support is fast and professional, and usually there is max. 4 min waiting time included. If things keep on going like this, I see no reason to switch to another provider.

I just used Chat Support yesterday without any problem at all. Wait time was 8 min. but that varies. I have gotten support within 1 min. many times. My problem was not resolved, however. I get tons of "SoftException in Application.cpp:574: Could not execute script" notices in Error Log and they can't seem to figure it out how to fix it. I googled the problem and no one on line can seem to fix it either. 99% of the time they fix my problem fast!

Guys this is old news, I have accounts with hostgator and they all have remained consistent. Nothing has changed at all!

If you do a little research into the takeover there were certain terms put in place which 'protect' us as customers from any changes to service or performance.

The only thing thats going to directly affect and damage the company and ultimately it's service is a bunch of misinformed customers jumping ship.

I am using HG for over 2.5 years but I never face any problem and their customer support is awesome. Still I can recommend anyone to use HG.

I'm a reseller customer with Hostgator for over 4 years. All was great until a few months ago. Now I have for the last weeks ongoing downtime 3-5 times a week for all of my 30+ sites.

During the last 7 days I had 5 times downtime between 8 and 20 minutes per day. I have sent several tickets, they respond 24 hours later - if at all -, and all I get are cheesy 'we are sorry' responses, but that's it. I have always recommended them, but now I'm so disappointed that I will move my sites elsewhere.

It's saddening how they treat valued customers.
