Is HostGator always this pain in the ass?

I have finally decided to take action in IM and did lots of work. Now I am ready to invest some cash as well and first one in the list was to get good webhost and I heard HostGator was very good. So I decided to buy a baby plan for 3 years @ $214.65. I have Paypal A/C but not enough balance. So I asked my coworker to make a payment on the behalf of me but she faced lots of registration problems and my co-workers started to have a doubt that it might be a fraud. Finally after 1 week and after chatting with the staff for almost an hour (Chat history below). We manage to make a payment.

When I chat with the staff, I double confirmed with the staff that after the payment my account will be active and he didn?t mention anything about phone verification. The payment was successful. I was very happy to receive my first hosting plan but little did I knew I had to call them and tell the all the credit card info. @_@" to verify my a/c again. OMG! Not to mention when I call them the staff was speaking in a very rude tone.

This is when I decided to give up and wait for the refund. I don?t mind going to think all this hassle by myself but asking someone else to do it would be too much to ask for. I will just go to my local bank and transfer the money to Paypal a/c and slap them with a new order.

I know I am a noob oh well I did learn lots of lessons:

    1. Don?t ask for too much from your friend
    2. Get your own credit card ASAP
    3. Sometimes a company holds information so ask for every single detail before making a move
    4. Never rush! And have patience
This is just a offsite problem, I can't wait to see what kind of problem I will run into when I start to do SEO;) and IM related work.

Now I am just curious : When your were trying to buy something, what was your most frustrating moment?

Below is the chat history. Clark is me and David is the staff.

I know what you are saying. They over-verify everything.

I registered the traditional way, but I used my paypal instead of a credit card, and all my personal information was in order. For some reason hostgator found it necessary to request that I upload a scanned proof of residence and passport/national ID to verify my account, even though I didn't pay with a credit card and my paypal was verified and working. I didn't feel like providing it, so I cancelled with them and went to a different well-established host that didn't bother me with those requirements.

I got tired of their bs and told them to put on some glasses... bad move since it made them more picky which delayed the process by another week.

They do this sometimes but they're still one of the best. Don't know why some people have so much troubles with them.

PS: You look like on of those "pain in the ass" customers. No offense but I'm just saying what I'm seeing.

HostGator sucks. they were asking me to send them PAN card scanned copy(Government ID Proof like SSN). Why the hell they want customers government ID proof just to get hosting. I mean they are not a financial institution.
Bought 3 year linux plan from godaddy (ultimate plan) and 2 years standard ssl ($12. no extra money for dedicated ip). Paid with credit card and acc got activated instantly. Some people may not find their hosting control very attractive (like cPanel), but i am used to it and it works great.

If you ask me, your best bet is to find another hosting. I don't see why people are still using them after that owner sold company.
    I've read enough bad reviews.

    Just move...

HostGator asked me to send them my PAN card scanned copy for identity verification. I showed them my middle finger. That's BS. Then bought go daddy hosting Like you. They didn't ask me anything. Happy with service quality.
