Anyone see some of the results lately where Twitter feeds are displayed near the top?

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but doesn't it seem like google is trying to give black hatters and marketers incentive to spam twitter?

We've seen Myspace lose popularity when people start spamming, along with other sites.

Seems to me that Twitter is an easy target now.
Simply get blackhat tools that make a ton of twitter accounts linking to your site, and google ranks it high and puts it in high authority, and you get some link juice. Also advertise for whatever products, use whatever APIs to tweet about hot trends with crap content and aim a bunch of links to twitter, which will then redirect authority to your site.

Of course if enough people do this in massive amounts, eventually twitter will have too many pages linking to lower quality sites, and it will take a hit, not to mention the effect it will have on the Twitter community. Seems to me like it would certainly help Google in the long run if Twitter...

Of course if that plan fails, people won't need to use twitter's search function, because they know that it's like that a Twitter feed will show up in google's results anyways.

Either way, I think leaching off of twitter's authority and google's new function of putting recent relevent twitter posts makes it a good target to go after.

Haven't really used Twitter much myself, but I just might have to now.

It is part of googles real time search feature they are rolling out. I saw it the other day so I looked it up. Apparently when this thing is going full force, we will be seeing twitter and facebook feeds at the top of our search pages. Seems that soon, the way to get to the very top of a google page is to tweet.

There is an easier explanation for it. Google checks the popularity of websites according to users preferences. That´s why it is of good value to take into account what the users are twittering/facebooking, it makes perfect sense without a cynical mind. However we are all domed to do our searches adding -site: www twitter com so we don´t get so many crappy results
