Also do you put your own content on it or add extras? Bit confused as I thought it was in it's last days. Any advice appreciated :)

i thought that the other day, but i am getting more results from google + than facebook. I add a summery of my post with the link and it's getting shared a lot

Google+ is wonderful for a solid rep management link. Piggyback a YouTube account, a Blogger, and a Google Site, and you've got yourself four awesome links.

i don't know much about it but a friend who owns a seo company told me to use it, he reckons it helps in the long run. Post daily to it i was told. I get more shares on there than i do on facebook

I agree.I cant stand when people say it is worthless.

Agree'd, I use it for my blog and it works fantastic. Like 30% of my social media traffic comes from it.

I post there just so Google doesn't feel hurt. It really does nothing for me.

So what do you put on there your own blog content or share more related to the subject :) Cheers the the advice

i just write a summery of my post and add the link, like a teaser and it does well. i do the same on facebook and it's rubbish

Why not just update to it like all the other SM accounts. I don't imagine it would hurt any and who knows maybe Google likes that you're using their platform and will rank your keywords better. :)

Use the Communities area of Google+ there is the most activity there.

Google+ is great and more adult minded.
I ranked quickly for a specific niche within a month.
Multiple shares and as others mentioned link it to your YT for extra cheddar.

Thanks for the replies - is it best to use snippets of your own content? Or to add various to circles? I don't want duplicate content but get that it is a Google owned product - hence me interest :)

I write a teaser summary and link to original post, it seems to work for me

In my experience Google+ has been annoying as hell, but overall a positive. It absolutely wouldn't even exist if it weren't the pet-project of the big G, and I'm pretty sure it's main purpose is for data mining and testing language algorithms in a real-world type environment.

It helps get pages indexed quickly, can be great for certain niches (like news sites) and has been a decent source of traffic for me for some sites. Honestly, it's hit or miss—but worth trying.

There is an art to timing with posts on G+, and while I have recognized it I have no clue how to predict it. I was running a news site a while back that would, on average get 2-10 likes or comments on any given post, but a few times a month would get the max 500 comments, hundreds of likes, and drive thousands of hits to my site. Then, it'd be crickets. The best I could ever conclude is that if it's something that's popular in the news NOW, hashtagging for that topic gets you love, and if it has anything to do with Israel—you get all kinds of comments. For example, I had a post that was just a snippet/autoblog type post from a msnbc type site about Ebola when that was in the news. For ~2hours I had an average of 150+ active viewers on my site, all from G+ and news.google.com. That, however, was a black swan, and still didn't make me shit which is why I abandoned the whole news niche idea.

I moved on realizing that G+ can be very beneficial, but totally unpredictable, and concluded I'd probably use it for every project in the future, but not devote much time at all to it.

So do you put in the exact wording from your site - or tease it out? :) Thanks again for any tips
