I made a simple blog for PPD with two niches. One with 60,500 Global Monthly Searches, 2,400 local monthly searches and the other 6,600/1,600 global and local searches. I was able to rank on page 1 for this keyword within a week using manual methods of SEO. But my problem is no single person has been directed to the blog from Google. What is the problem?

$5 says you're doing broad searches and not exact.

This same questions comes up at least 2-5 times per week here on BHW, yet no one seems to pay attention to the correct answers. First, most of the time people don't realize that you have to have the keyword tool set to "exact", or you are going to get incorrect traffic data. Second, you have to understand how much traffic each position gets in Google. Just because you are on the first page doesn't mean you are going to get traffic for the term. You have to understand what position gets what. Here is leaked data from AOL (owned by Google) from a few years ago. I own many sites and also analyze a lot of sites traffic and I can tell you this is very accurate.

    http://training.seobook.com/google-ranking-value

Overall Percent of Clicks Relative Click Volume
    1. 42.13%, 2,075,765 clicks
    2. 11.90%, 586,100 clicks
    3. 8.50%, 418,643 clicks
    4. 6.06%, 298,532 clicks
    5. 4.92%, 242,169 clicks
    6. 4.05%, 199,541 clicks
    7. 3.41%, 168,080 clicks
    8. 3.01%, 148,489 clicks
    9. 2.85%, 140,356 clicks
    10. 2.99%, 147,551 clicks
    1. 3.5x less
    2. 4.9x less
    3. 6.9x less
    4. 8.5x less
    5. 10.4x less
    6. 12.3x less
    7. 14.0x less
    8. 14.8x less
    9. 14.1x less
So for example, if you have a term that gets 1,600 searches per month exact and you are in the #6 position you should expect roughly 4% of the over all traffic.

    1,600 X .04 = 64/30 days = 2.13

So expect around 2 visitors per day from that term.

Now remember there are ways to increase your CTR, and the numbers can be off with other factors such as trends, time of the year ect.

    Good luck.

You're probably searching for broad instead of exact, try clicking on that setting to see the actual results.
