I was wondering if my observation is consistent with others here. Though we are seeing some shuffle due to Penguin 3.0 iterations, I feel any new link achieved in the last 2 months or so has no affect on ranks?

Backlinks are still affecting rankings, from days to weeks.

Well, I am surprised! After last seeing jump in ranks late October, for me new links haven't had any effect. Some of them very good links, including .edu (not comments or spammed, but genuine links on US Universities). It is as though a link condom on new links and changes are only algorithmic.

Are you sending low quality backllinks to new website? IF yes that could explain why you don't see any ranking increase. New websites are 'sandboxed' they just don't rank no matter what.

Had the "sandbox" been proven. I have heard it really doesn't exist. If so, how can I find more info?

I see very few backlinks being updated but i can't just rely on the backlinks analysis tools only. Still healthy with ranking though

I think because of low quality backllinks to the website

Well there has been a lot of Google updates in effect in last few months so hard to count what made the rankings affected. I saw some jumps some downfalls.. so a deep analysis is needed indeed. Though I personally don't think the links are not being counted.

Have noted almost the same, no changes regardless how good the new links are to the site. Seems something is going on at Google.

Yes new links are being considered. You should allow time for actual improvements. Check your anchor diversity and link qualities.

    Totally not the case.

I'm having properties hitting page one and #1 this week with links built over 2-4-6 weeks.

The keyword I am chasing has 100,000 monthly searches. $2.0 Google AdWords value per click. The site that wasn't ranking within 100 until mid-Sept, started ranking in twenties by mid-Oct. Towards the end of October it ranked at 16th. From then on about 30% of the backlinks to the site were built, but the site ranks where it did in end October, plus/minus few positions. The links that were built after October are similar in profile built before. No spam, comments, keyword anchor, or web 2.0 profiles. Mostly guest posts on blog that have real traffic and 4 .edu links from US universities citing the scholarship we are running.

Interesting! Can you say it from algorithmic changes? If the rise you see is due to algorithm tweak (we have seen a few Penguin 3.0 iteration last few weeks), then there must have been some shuffle in the ranking order.
