I just came across a post on another forum, it went on to talk about how a client of his recently got a penalty for 'Unnnatural Linking'. You know the story and have seen the message that Google's rolled out to over 700k people in their Webmaster Tools.

Here's the details from that post:
Is there any evidence that this is actually occurring besides what this guy posted? No, not yet. But here's some interesting things that are currently going on in the Google verse that show's that Google's proactively interested in the commenting platform idea.

Could Akismet be sharing this spam data with Google? Its likely they could be. Cleaning up the web and reducing spam is something that benefits both sides of the table, both Google and Wordpress.

Has anyone else seen any evidence that Google's providing evidence to URL's with blog comments that have NOT yet been approved?

Google should just create an entirely separate internet where every click generates ad revenue and people can get free service by submitting their social security number and access to credit card and bank account info and call it a day.

I never imagined that something like this would happen. Although it is not too entirely far fetched that akismet would be collaborating with google. If its so it looks like this is for real then quite possibly the days of spam commenting could be completely over as google will recognize those links and place no value upon them.

Spam commenting and blog commenting is totally different. You should never blast your money site directly anyway. Do it with dummy domains, and then blast the AA ones with Akismet, at a controlled rate.

Just like I mentioned in another thread, I don't think the loss in ranking and the WMT unnatural link message was linked together. Loss in rankings was probably due to the deindexing of thousands of sites with your backlinks on it, and the unnatural links message was because of the blog comments, if this was indeed the reason of this.

I agree with you, but this guys claiming something that could be HUGE. The guy is making the claim that Google was providing an example of a blog comment which was NEVER approved and marked as SPAM by the blog owner. Which means Google could have never crawled, and algorithmically found that link outside of having access to Akismet's data.

This is a pretty huge deal if it's true. The fact that you would be penalized for something that could so easily be used against competition is alarming, never mind that using non-crawled information to affect search results has implications that should be making everyone shit their pants.

If what this guy says is true, scrapebox will be mainly used to blast everyones sites except the owners - a ridiculous situation that will only create even more problems and spam for google. Akismet will do well out of it though.

I think it'd make competitors too vulnerable if anything like this ever became relevant. You load SB with poor, shitty spun grammar and you blast number 1 to 10 with it. Sounds abusable.

    Relax a little bit guys,

A Google spokesperson confirmed -> "we don't use Akismet to flag spam."

But should we trust what google says, is another question - LOL

Google couldn't do this,as stated everyone would be blasting other sites. Also if people started blasting big brand sites they should be penalised as well.If they were not,and make no mistake people would be hitting them hard, smaller companies would take legal action against google for biased towards big brand sites,so effectively having a different algo for them.

Google is smart enough to have already looked into the pro's and cons of this already.

Exactly if Google do this then think about how many of us will be blasting our competition and everything is just to screw the whole idea up. This will not work.
