Do you remember some years ago the amount of threads talking about voice assistants' "SEO"?

I'm feeling that GEO(1) is pretty much the same b*****t. What are you exactly optimizing for? Theoretically, these guys are assuming that LLM crawlers get to your site (just like Google crawlers), pick your content, and feed the LLM. Theoretically, with the right "content parsers" they will give you some weird magical scores that give you the fake impression, that your content is optimized for "GEO".

I remember that there were some little black hat tactics back in the day with voice assistants, google autocomplete and things like that (from my point of view, unless you were working in very niche markets, extremely residual). Similarly for GEO, probably you might find some slight edge. But ultimately, tools like Perplexity are crawling the Google results to compose their content. Be first on Google for such keywords, and you will get presented to the Perplexity users as a recommended thing.

So at this point all I can think is that GEO is going to be the ultimate scam for 2026 in FB/Reddit/you-name-it guru groups.
Also, all tools are adding this buzzword to their list of services (no one wants to be the last to jump on the cart of randomness).

(1) GEO stands for Generative (AI) Engine Optimization.
