I just had a bunch of sites accepted into DMOZ. I remember it being a bit more of a challenge. Is DMOZ still worth anything or is it just another link?

little from column a, little from column b, google still seems to love it last i played anything decent with it so it all depends what your targetting

I've been told that the sale value of a domain greatly increases when it has been indexed into DMOZ. Not sure how true this is, but then again...you would still have to find someone willing to pay top dollar for the domain anyways.

DMOZ honestly I didnt even know what that is, so most likely it is worth shit, when i went to review what it was DONT see the point in it, so I guess it is worth well shit.

Lol, you kidding me?

For the thread starter:
It is still the must trusted directory out there, so yeah, it is still worth getting it.

Hmmm but how can we benefit from it? Keyword and niche research? The nasty ugly interface must have thrown me off...

One of my clients got over 500 direct referrals from DMOZ just today, according to his stats. That's a lot of targeted free traffic. In other words, it worth something if you're offering something. DMOZ doesn't work with shitty sites though.

Many newbies may not be familiar with DMOZ, so your scepticism is understandable. I'm not saying it's the latest and greatest, but it's a very respectable source of traffic if you can get listed and have some longevity.

On the other hand, if you don't know anything about DMOZ, perhaps it's best to hold your comment.

Best,
Sine

Nope I will free my comment, I wasnt talking to you so dont go there plz, i DONT need this site for my business and i been in the marketing game for a 3 + years smart and have alot of networks and plans supporting me, so im not desperate to join DMOZ or anything even after you say of those 500 hits, bet if I try I can get in there, IMHO i dont see the hype, I mean I just dont, thats just me, end of story....

(I CAN READ BETWEEN LINES)

DMOZ is a mile stone for every white hat project. It is very famous and very appreciated by a lot of webmaster. Google directory is actually a mirror of DMOZ. It carries a lot of page rank juice. So, if you are doing a whitehat project, for your clients, or for long term results, include submission to DMOZ in the package.

Thanks Nick for explaining it to me rather than leaving me here dumbfounded, I will need some PR in the future for whitehat blogs I plan, so i will keep this in mine.

You posted on a public forum. Therefore you don't get to dictate to whom you "talk". Make sense?

Furthermore, since you posted a reply to the OP that was more harmful than helpful, I responded with something more relevant other than "I've not heard of it. It must be shit."

If you've nothing further to contribute to a thread about DMOZ, why respond?

best,
Sine

Do you have a bad day, well, everyday? I mean what is it? No more legal talk please, wait till November...

I forgot to say "CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!"

it should probably also be noted that a lot of sites mirror dmoz (you can download the entire thing in rss or rdf or something, forget) so you could end up with a link from far more than just dmoz for getting listed there

your complaining about corruption on a blackhat board? hahaha

even if they were corrupt (personally im of the opinion they arent) does it matter so long as we get our links from em?

Worth shit just cos YOU'VE never heard of it lol. Give me a break!

I gave up on DMOZ a long time ago. Every time I've submitted a site to DMOZ it was never accepted or took months to get in. I'm talking about literally hundred's of legit white hat sites with good content. I'm surprised you got several sites in. You must have picked a well moderated section.

DMOZ is still a good directory, it's just rough getting in to a lot of the sections. Some DMOZ editors are corrupt or have ulterior motives. I actually tried becoming a DMOZ editor a few years ago (of course to be corrupt and help myself) and they never responded to me.
