'Submission to Directories' isn't a big task, mate. If your site's good, it'll get picked up automatically. Don't squander good money on so called 'submission' services! Focus on-site instead, and you'll be good to go. All the best :)

Some directories are good, many others are, as you correctly stated, goofd.

It`s a backlink source like all the others - blog comments, article directories and so on, and so on...
So better use it for link diversity and even ranking if the Directories have good PR and ******** backlinks.
As any other backlink source nowadays it must be used careful and clever.

Yeh ! of course,Directory submission is very important part of off page seo. It's really helpful in getting back-links for your website. But as per Google algorithms the links should be do-follow.No-follow back-links has no value.

Directory links are vital, particularly these days when it is all about link diversity.

I believe that it is very important to have both do-follow and no-follow links. Only because if you have 1,000 do-follow links pointing to your site and not one no-follow link, it is not going to look natural and could raise a red flag with Google.

    Rhnkmr,

Directory submission (as state by other members) is still a good step in off-site SEO however I would steer clear of the paid ones. They are beneficial however not when they charge 300+ dollars to list your site.

Also, make sure the directory hasn't been banned,

    Hope that helps you,
