    Hey BHW,

    Yesterday i backordered a domain from crazydomains(dot)co(dot)uk.

I have never used the company before, but getting this domain would really help our bussiness (not a mns).

    Today i get this e-mail...

I am writing in regards to your Back order on "domain name" which you have applied through Crazy Domains.
As a part of our fraud protection process your domain has been selected for a random fraud check and we require some details to authenticate your order.
Can you please provide the following:

? A copy of the credit card used for the order (you may cover the first 12 digits for security reasons)
? A copy of valid photo ID (drivers license, passport, etc)

You can either fax the copies through to "their fax number" (please mark ATTN: "email contact" and mention your domain).

Or you can email the scanned copies of the above in reply to this email.

If we do not receive reply within 48 hours we will be forced to remove the order from our system, a full refund would be processed. Please advise if you have further queries."

Does this seem legit to you guys...ive bought tons of domains from lots of companys and this is the first time i am seeing this...

    Any thoughs ?

I just visited their site and I think it's all fine, they have a security certificate issued by comodo and Alexa traffic about 100.000. Those are positive signs, additionally you can search through the Google of any bad reviews or something worse.

Fraud check usually takes place if you order with the card (credit or debit), i.e. not through a PayPal or similar service and if you're from the 3rd world countries.

I think you should be fine, send them what they requested, just cover your card numbers.

I use them in Australia (crazydomains.com.au). Same company.

It's OK and cheap but their customer service reps are dumb like hell. This was so frustrating when my .it domain didn't work properly (DNS setup).

Thanks...i found a review or 2 about them online. But i decided to see if anyone has used them. In my experience you can never be too carefull when giving out info on the net.

    Thanks for the help.

Had a dealing with them for almost a year for couple of my casual sites. Customer service is in India and even if you are lucky to get through to the local person, they do everything to make you feel like your call is unwelcome.
They answer the phone with an attitude, lack professional knowledge and especially their women who answer the phone have a very unpleasant mannerism about them.
When there is a problem with the services, it takes weeks for them to get on to it and usually at least 3-7 letters to get it sorted.
Down time is also a pain in the back side. Very unreliable. If these where my business sites, I would've already lost thousands due to frequency of down times.
The only positive thing I've got to say about them, is that they are more flexible with getting things set up individually as required. Everything else leaves a lot to be desired.
    Highly not recommended.

    Hello,
I bought couple of .coms from Crazy Domains recently because they were so cheap..no probs there.
Now then, when I asked the Philipino folks who answer the phones, where is the Company Office in U.K. ?
The answer was " you will see it on the website".
The fact is there isn't one,....just p/o. box number. S o just be careful dudes.
Same appplies to Pool.com in Ottawa, Canada,....No one ever asked me for my Card details just to register.
I aim to sell my names not buy any,..........as soon as that came up,......adios amigos.
    "Regards" SHARJAHMAN

First off let me just say that I have used Crazy Domains for something like 5 years and have never had any complaints.

    Until today.

Yesterday I ordered 2 new domains and paid as usual with my Visa card through my account with them. Then this morning I realized there was an email saying my order is pending subject to a random security check. Ok, I thought, security checks are generally a good thing so I didn't really mind... that is until I read what they were asking for. They wanted me to send a scanned copy of my Visa card AND either my Driver's license (with photo) or my Passport! At that point I went "What the?".

There is simply no way I am going to send off a copy of my license or passport to ANYBODY who is not a government institution or a bank. They already have all my details in my account which I can log into any time to prove it's my account. Besides, I ordered from my account through their system - how could it be done fraudulently? The poor girl on the phone - from the Philippines, I presume - wouldn't budge on the request for my details and wouldn't let me speak to a manager. I'm off to cancel my order and look for a new registrar. The whole thing smells suspicious to me. I mean, if someone has a copy of my license or passport and the last 4 digits of my credit card isn't that enough to commit substantial fraud in my name?

We had a domain registered with Crazydomains and needed to update some details so needed a log-in re-set. I sent 6 EMails to support, as on the website. After no response to the first 2 after 2 weeks, I requested delivery and read receipts for the remainder. 3were returned with a status of 'delete unopened'.
I wrote to the Complance Department, who promised that would respond within 2 working days, but 2 weeks later still no response.
Don't expect any help or support once they've got your money.
Better still, find an alternative registrar who cares about their customers.

I bought my first domain and hosting with them.. jumped through the required hoops in terms of sending them a scan of my license and credit card. I was happy with doing that. BUT..

A week later, i go to buy a second domain name - and they wanted me to go through the whole process again. I wrote a pretty angry email asking if this was going to be a requirement each and every time.. they don't reply.. they are like freakin autobots.. i dumped them. Suggest going with someone with good customer service.. it's worth the extra couple of bucks. (I now use godaddy.. pretty good.. ).
