A friend of mine who sells a popular craigslist scrapper got a cease and desist from craigslist legal. They are demanding he stop selling his product and turn over his customer list or they will take legal action against him. I'm just wondering if this is something isolated or the first step in a really bad shit storm? He hasn't talked to his lawyer yet so not sure what he's going to do (I'm sure he'll address this on his own to his customers) But the whole give us your customer info got me worried and I just wanted to let everyone know that they should be very careful. Stay safe guys...

It's just like Deja Vu, all over again. LOL

I guess it's not a good idea to piss off the gay boys at CL. Just like what put the autoposters in the crapper a few months back.

    Gay boys?

Seriously though, you're right. It's like peoples imaginations are really limited. How many of these scrapers are there... 5 or 6? Just like the autoposters that seemed to be on every street corner last year. GEEZ!

Whenever you've got a good thing going, someone comes along and screws it up.

Should I be worried? I've never bought an autoposter but I've done some CLing.

I doubt it Craigslist isn't the law...They got the customer info from the auto poster makers and nothing ever happened then. I think worst that will happen is they ban your ip lol

What all these people selling various products should do, is host and sell from other countries, not the US. The CL boys are not going to chase down every buyer of these sorts of products, they want the sources. Put the sources out of reach and it's the end of the story. Pretty simple.

As for "give us your customer list"... It's a demand not an order. I demand to win the lottery because I want it. I'm not holding my breath. It's a long way to having to give that up, and much longer to do something with it if they got it.

I had purchased several of the autoposters they went after, and no swat team is busting down my doors. So it will be with this.

When I posted that before I thought it was a CL spammer/autoposter, which isn't illegal. It actually is a email scraper, and using them is illegal according to the CAN SPAM... I guess since he made it it is assumed that he used it to, so that could get him into trouble...

It was actually directed at Craig and his b/f Jim. I certainly hope no one thought I was inferring anyone here was a gay boy. If anyone took it that way, I am sincerely sorry for not being more precise. :chairshot

Asking if CL Spamming is dead is not the right question to ask. Asking how to stay under the radar is the real question you should be asking.

"Craiglist later took steps to reduce eBay's stake. In December, 2007, and January, 2008, Craigslist changed its bylaws to dilute eBay's ownership to 24.85% (from around 28%), removing its right to appoint a Craigslist board member" (Businessweek).

I'd say to give the customer list to someone you trust and tell CL you don't keep that shit. If they end up taking you to court, they would have anyway. I knew someone that is the boss of this big thing, and had hundreds of private contractors paid under the table or something, kept all their records in a notebook in another place. Works. If the fuzz don't find it.
