    Hi Everyone,
I asked this on a different forum, one person said its the first metric a search engine looks at and a different person said it doesn't matter at all.
So, is CTR a ranking factor or not?
    What are your thoughts?

A lot of people have tested it.

I lean on it being an indirect ranking factor, but the user that clicks has to stay on your site and the CTR needs to stay consistent. So if the users are bouncing back to the SERP immediately or the CTR eventually falls off, you'll lose any position that you've gained.

Whether it is a ranking factor or not, I still think there is a benefit to increasing clicks to your website.

It is, but I know what you're thinking and no... you can't use bots or exchanges to click through the SERPS in your keyword and increase your rank. This DID work a couple years ago or so, and it was a fairly well kept secret for a while. But it got abused and Google is immune to it now. Google still likely uses click thru rates as a metric, but they probably only care what the CRT is from trusted, logged in, verified, non-proxy, chrome users. So even to attempt to game them you would need a giant pool of highly aged Google accounts in many different cities. In other words, pretty much impossible.

Google does not use CTR as a direct core ranking signal.

Why? If it became clear that CTR was a direct signal, people would implement bots, or pay large numbers of people in third world countries to click on their pages in the search results to drive their rankings up.

But, it doesn’t matter whether it is direct or indirect. If it impacts ranks or doesn’t impact rank, you should still care.

CTR is an indirect ranking factor.
So, you can focus on to increase CTR to get more traffic to your website.

But don't try to improve CTR with BOT.

Click through rate is not a major fact in ranking but it will help in the way to get the ranking for the sites indirectly.

As we all know there are lots of factors go into the ranking. Some may impact directly and indirectly. CTR indicates that more people are visiting your site and it sends important signals to Google that your page is relevant and awesome. Optimize to improve the organic CTR.
