I know this is old news to a lot of you, but I just learned this 2 days ago and I'm there are still many of you who havn't heard...

You can now preregister (for free) new domain name extensions over at 1 and 1 (ex: .web .blog .fashion .online). This has been going on for a little while now, but now more than ever is a time that some good investments can be made for very cheap.

    Good luck.

You can pre register, but it does not mean you will get the domain.

Oh and I would rather buy a domain off a heroin addict than 1&1, they are more trustworthy.

I see your point, but I see no reason not to pre-register. Worst case, you don't get the domains and lose a few minutes of time. Best case, you get the domains and have now turned time into money.

I take it you have never bought a domain from them. I have bought three and here is how their scam goes. Like a normal domain registrar when you pay for your domain, for some very stupid fucking reason, they do not charge you, they also do not tell you this. You see what they like to do is try to charge you for the domain 3 - 4 weeks later, now if you have no money in your bank / paypal account at the time they try to charge, 1 you can end up with bank charges when they try to take the money and 2 they add a nice little charge onto the domain which they hold at ransom for £20 or something like that.

Yeah LOL i got screwed by them, i think you also have to leave recurring payment option on the domain if you remove it they block your nameservers. Also they turned transferring domains into rocket science.

On the other hand though, I have a three year old domain which I have never actually paid for, which is still up and live, but I have had other domains which they have tried to charge me for.

Nearly forgot about the other problem I have had with them. Bought a domain from them, used Paypal to pay, months later the Paypal is closed. When it come up to the time of renewal I phoned 1&1 to try and pay with my bank card. They told me that I was mistaken and my renewal date was some weeks before, and I had already paid for the renewal through Paypal. I told them this is not possible as the account is closed, but they insisted that it had been paid. Several weeks later I get a letter from them demanding a £20 no payment charge on top of my domain cost. My advice is stay well clear of these idiots.

1 and 1 sucks ass. I went there once, on some bullshit promise of a cheap Domain Name, and they fucked me around, and then they fucked me around, and just when I thought they were done fucking me around, they tried to fuck me around some more. Click this, and fill in that, and enter this and do that and finally fuck them.

    Just fuck them.

I wouldn't piss on 1 and 1 if their hair were on fire. I look forward to the day when they go out of business, and the owners are loitering on the street offering blow-jobs for $10.00, just so they can buy McDonalds to feed their children.

And another point to add, when few years back I been their customer, I've checked a domain name and it was available at that time, it took like 20 seconds while I got my credit card out to order the domain, and it was magically already registered by them in that few seconds.

I've read reports that GoDaddy does the same shit. Back when EMD was more important than it is now, certain paranoid domainers would only research domain availability using certain resources (not sure what), and avoid companies like GoDaddy, etc... Look up "Domain Tasting" to get a sense of what these bastards were doing.

I doubt they are doing it now, given that EMD's have been deprecated. But you never know.

In 10 years I think this thread will be more valuable than it is now, people are skeptical about all of the new domain extensions. Personally, I try to stick to .com's mostly, but when it isn't available I try to go to other gTLD's.
