Is AI destined to end the Internet as we know it?

I believe that with the further development of AI, not only search engines but the entire commercial Internet as we know it will die. Services similar to ChatGPT will become the sole sources of information online, effectively monopolizing the space. I already find it easier to get all the information I need from ChatGPT rather than sifting through numerous websites in Google's search results. Since these services will have knowledge of everything on the Internet and the ability to select the most accurate information on any topic, the commercial rationale for maintaining websites becomes void if no one will visit them to see the advertisements posted by their owners. Advertisers will simply pay AI service owners to more frequently recommend their products to users who show interest or search for something related.

What are your thoughts on this?

I do not believe search engines will desapear or die because of AI everyone wants everything to die!!! not all people use AI as you might thing, is easier to train AI with content that already exist content that people already created rather than hire experts on topics pay them for they knowledge so the AI can be trained manually one is free the other one you need to pay per hour to experts how many hours will that people expend training the AI manually and make sure the result is correct? AI is not too powerful right now but in 25 more years search engines will have problems because we will have self learning AI but this is just a guess.

I think AI is going to reshape our internet, It will change how we think. It already started to make our life easier. Yes, this is right that it is not still up to the mark but yes, it has just started its journey. But still, there are some measures we need to take. Like taking control of it. It seems the tough thing in the future. If we fail to control it within our wrists then it will definitely be a big problem.

AI is more specialised on answering questions.

Search engines are going the yellow pages way. These days I am no longer as concern about seo anymore, I believe that its importance is deminishing.

It's probably more effective to sneak in ads in YouTube, etc.

Internet started dying long ago - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Internet_theory. AI just hastened its death by allowing every man and his dog to fill it with AI generated content. But the problem is actually more Google rather than the internet itself.

Until you know how to use AI, it won't give you what you want. To work with AI, you need to understand how it works. therefore, my opinion is that everything will develop gradually and definitely there will be no revolution in the next 10 years

I just realized that Google, the search engine, is becoming outdated. The notion of typing a query and receiving 10 pages of irrelevant results is outdated and inefficient, it feels so 2010. It feels so antiquated. It feels so cumbersome to use now, and I just realized that I have been using ChatGPT and Google Bard heavily in the past few months because they are quicker in everything. I think many people are beginning to feel like the way I feel about Google now.

The "AI Services" need to train on something to provide the answers, especially regarding recent developments, news. SEO will transform into efficient spam into "AI services" training data. Also, if you are a professional in some field you already know answers from AI need to be double checked to avoid hallucination output. You still need to visit niche sites with content written by real people. The hallucination free content will retain value. Hallucination itself is unavoidable until artificial general intelligence is achieved. Whether it is achievable in foreseeable future is debatable.

Really? If you want to find out the length of the Earth's equator, or what was the name of the first publicly known musical composition written by Mozart, and also how old he was when he wrote it, isn't it easier to just use a normal human language (any language you prefer) to ask ChatGPT, rather than searching for it in Google or Wikipedia?

Ok, you are effectively spamming if with your data and maybe it will show some pieces of your content to the users. How would they click on the sponsored ads you want to earn from?

AI will change everything, but not over night. But when we will look back we will see. Already changing it day by day ;)

It already ended the internet as you knew it. It's now a new age, and in the future there will be a new one.

unless singularity is achieve AI will always be controllable .....relax for now and enjoy the internet

Once someone told me, bitcoin will replace all the currencies in the world.
Not just Bitcoin. Crypto, in general, will.
It's all but inevitable.
Just look at all the CBDCs.

Once BTC flips Gold, a lot of people will be regretting the decision of waiting to get into crypto.

As you can see from the link below, Bitcoin has just flipped Meta, and has taken the #9 spot as the most valuable asset on Planet Earth.

By EOY 2024, I would not be at all surprised to see it flip Silver.

Back to the main topic at hand, I don't think "the commercial internet" is going to die. At least, not yet, and not due to AI.

AI NEEDS to be trained on data -- data that content creators create. Die? No. Evolve? Absolutely. AI cannot be trained on datasets created by AI. At least, not yet. I believe we're at least a decade from that.

As for Search, I still very often pop queries into popular search engines. I do, however, believe that SEO is going to take a much bigger backseat to paid advertising.

As we approach the cyberpunk era the world is trying to push us into, corporations will become more and more powerful. As indicated by the *URL above, you can see the market caps of some corporations far exceed that of entire GDPs of *most countries. Corporations like money.

Some new search engine that may replace Google may not give 2 craps about your back links. They may just want your money and have some crazy amounts of filtration in their content delivery algorithms to ensure each search is met with the perfect content, delivered in the perfect way, to the perfect user. Who knows?

I mostly refer back to the internet for clarification. I sometimes don't trust the GPT outcome since it provided me with outdated information during research a long time ago.
