I've been using ahrefs for a while now, and it gave me a statistic of a company that used 300 backlinks and a company that used 150,000. The company with 300 was ranking for the same keyword and was quite ahead of the company that used 150,000.

    Is this accurate?

I am now going to use a few other backlink checking sources but how does that happen?

    That's not the tools fault....

Ahrefs is one of the most accurate out there.

not all backlinks are equal. and i thinks site explorer counts quality backlinks, for an example i blasted low quality backlinks and i saw them in majestic seo but in ahrefs and site explorer there where no backlinks. A couple of days ago i hade 7000k backlinks in majestic but in site explorer i had maybe 1k

100% of girl drivers do not know how to drive
100% of male drivers are badass.

    Is this accurate?

I'll let you be the judge.

But to answer your question, check with majestic, moz, and a few other sources and then average the results as necessary. Not one backlink checker is going to be 100% accurate. So thank god we are given alternatives.

Ahrefs & Majestic SEO and all the others simply do not have the crawling capacity like Google. They show 1-10% of total links at best.

ahrefs is accurate. Nobody, not even Google, has a complete snapshot of the WWW. Nobody. So all link popularity tools are innacurate by nature, even Google's SERPs are innacurate, though they are the better SE still, they're far from complete.

So you need to cross information from more than one tool to be sure. Also, having a shit ton of links does not equal rankings. A single link from the front page of CNN may give you a million visitors, whereas 10.000 forum signature links may give you a handful visitors...

I've always found AHREFS to be accurate. It's a great tool to analyze your link profile and I've been using it consistently for quite some time now and have never once ran into issues with it being accurate.

Ahrefs is a great site to check backlink, they may not show every backlink but it will give you backlink in details
