Okay, So I'm not sure if even trying to rank this EMD I purchased the other day is going to be worth the or not but I couldn't resist not buying the domain. So this EMD domain name has an average of 11+ million monthly searches according to Google Adwords but I'm not sure how reliable Google Adwords is maybe it's an error or something. So how can I tell if this EMD is worth even trying to rank? I'm not terribly knowledgeable about SEO so thought I would post it here to get some opinions.

    Thanks!

I really don't think anyone would even search for this keyword because it's just a keyword that doesn't make sense. When I search Google with the keyword it has over 500 million search results. The keyword is so unusual I'm not even sure what kind of content the website would even need.

Probably a waste of time. Unless its some weird niche that noone has thought of yet (its not)

also a new EMD will take years of work to catch up to a real brand in seach.

There are many other factors you should consider before you rank a website, even if the domain is an EMD. For example:

    1. Are your competitors mostly authority websites? If they are, it may take quite some time before you can compete with them.
    2. Do Google News, Google Videos, YouTube, or Google Maps appear in the SERPs? If they do, it's best to avoid the keyword.
    3. Are you the first owner of your EMD? If the EMD is new and isn't aged, then you may have a difficult time outranking your competitors.
    4. Has your EMD received any penalties in the past? If it has, you may find it difficult to compete in the SERPs.

Thanks for the info! I have to many domains atm to really even think about trying to start building and ranking another domain. By the sounds of what you guys posted it's proably a waste of time. The domain name that I picked up was [play store -25.com] and I'm not really sure why that keyword even has that much search volume. Any ideas?

    Hi,
I just checked in my adwords keyword planner and that keyword only has 10 monthly searches, so it might be an error on your adwords.

if you already own the EMD then definitely worth the try and you can always flip it later.

You are going the wrong way bro. First, you need to learn to analyze your competition and other stuffs. How are you even thinking of ranking an EMD, when you don't even know which factors are imp. to analyze for rankings.

    It's not.

The EMD OP bought does indeed have 10 searches a month. He looked at the volume of "play store". The first 9 results on page 1 are variations of a google.com subdomain. I'm not sure if it's even physically possible to rank above it.

Your answer making me confused now, with a new domain i own and ranked.

    1. Yes. it took just weeks
    2. Yes, youtube and google maps. I Didn't avoid and still ranked #2 now in 3 weeks.
    3. It wasnt EMD but it was EMD+word
    4. NOT SURE, as it wasnt EMD and but it was new domain.

MY SEO, only just basic Tier 1 backlinks. and tier 2 using GSA

Okay, I do think EMD helps in still establishing ranking at least for the first month anyways and if your not starting to add unique content to the domain by then it will start to head down hill or stay where it landed the first few weeks it's went live.

Here's an example of a domain [abcdef.com] I picked up a few weeks ago and threw some content at it and it's already ranked top 20 for 4 keywords and 2 keywords ranked around 70. One of the keywords has a monthly of 14,800 searches and high competition and is ranked at 14 on Google already which is better than the other keywords that don't have high competition and has fewer search volume and I have not even touched these with any SEO work at all. If it wasn't an EMD or EMD+KW domain I don't think it would of ranked at all but I could be wrong.

Also, is it true that I should be creating pages and trying to rank the pages instead of using categories for ranking?
