I don't have a Mac so I can't use the SDK software. The other problem is that since I already have to pay $99 to get a Developer's Account, I would prefer not to have to spend another $400 or so getting someone from Freelancer.com to build this app. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

I'm thinking of selling it for either $0.99 or making it free & monetizing w/ ads. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated as well (how many sales does any old $0.99 average app get?).

The app is a Calorie calculator by the way without getting too far into this. It's pretty simple to make though I would think.

Well if you don't have a Mac, you can't build your own application and that sucks. You should buy one and get the developer license and then learn and build your app yourself. $400 for an app is verry low, I think you will find someone for $1k - $2k . So in my opinion you should get an mac mini and the license.

I did the same and It's better to do it yourself.

To make back the price of the Mac, I'd have to sell 1000 copies of the app. Is that the norm?

why not make it a webapp?

dont have to go through the approval process or anything like that - can still monetize it with adverts...

    use im/seo to promote it

your chances of recouping your money back is very slim. There are about 250k apps in the app store..and they only reveal top 100 per category..your chances are slim to none.

I don't think this is necessarily true. Will I rank Top 100 for Lifestyle or w/e? No, probably not, but I think I will garner some sales from searches.
