Ipage shut down my websites, due to malicious content. Alledgely my hosting has been hacked, and they want to charge me $90 per month to get it back up and running.

What can I do?

I don't have a backup. I don't think.

If that is the case, you have some advice above but you always want to back up your sites on a regular basis... there are too many options to do that with almost no effort on your part to not do that going forward.

There is a possibility that iPage has one although it sounds like you are not on the best of terms right now.

I got a couple of websites hosted with them which were hacked as well. They suspended the sites and sent me an email with what needed to be fixed which I easily addressed and had the sites back again in a few hours. While I'm NOT vouching for them as a good hosting service, they took care of this quite professionally to be honest.

They pointed me to where the issues are, and never asked me to get any additional service whatsoever. Funnily, most issues actually came from a security service they are promoting themselves, so who knows, I wouldn't be surprised if that's a new shady trend in the web hosting business. Or the other option, which sounds more reasonable is that you're doing some dodgy stuff, otherwise I can't see a reason why they wouldn't reinstate your websites.

hmmmm i think the hackers are on their payroll lol.

nice strategy kudos to ipage owners :D

From here on out, what plugins can I use for automatic backups for my wordpress websites?

BackupBuddy, or manually backup using WP Duplicator once you're making changes or updating. But, for peace of mind go with BackupBuddy as it has automatic backup schedule that you can send offsite like Dropbox, S3, etc.

Try to be more persuasive, when i used them for hosting they've tried to force me to upgrade to some crap plans for several times, I talked with them via Support Tickets and in the end they've done as I requested. I actually used them for a full year, it's decent. But they'll try to fool you into purchasing their shit quite often.

Never use them for serious hosting.

Agreed with most that you should take your page elsewhere. Back it up and move~

Is your site pretty big? That's the only reason I can think of that they would even think about charging $90/month for hosting it.

Can you login into their plesk panel? You can get your backup from there..

Are they holding your content hostage? If not I would download it immediately and just not use them anymore, there are tons of quality web hosts out there.

Just ask them to scan and send you scan long, remove the files and ask them to re-activate your host.

iPage is doing this all the time and forcing you to order SiteLock which is 9.99$ per site :)
My client has a website on iPage and after he faced same issue like you he switched to other host.
