Just wondering if you guys know how many files can be in one directory. Like say if you had 10,000 files in /images folder. Would anyone know?

I tried the chat support but they said it's unlimited, but I know that's not exactly true. And I remember a long time ago people getting their accounts suspended for it, but I can't remember how many files. Any ideas?

Hey funny you would ask, I added 200,000 files in one directory the other day, it worked. It was on Ipage.

Thanks :) Makes me feel a little bit better about my smaller amount lol I'm actually planning now on keeping it below 5k per directory.

I can't be 100% sure, but you might run into some issues in the future with having that many files. I'm trying to remember back. But I think they either have cronjobs, or occasionally run scripts to check for large file counts, and then take action on them. I used to work for them, but the file limits came up so very little I couldn't remember. Things might have been since back then though, and/or maybe I'm mistaken or not thinking straight.

Each sever has a inode limit

And allowing one account to consume all inode would not work for any host in shared environment
