I am thinking about investing $456 into articles for just one website. (16000 words)
I would very much like to get some input on my thoughts :)

18 Articles of medium quality (textbroker 3 to 4 stars) averaging 900 words each.
Now since I am targeting the german market, I'm afraid it wont get much cheaper than that (paying around 0,02? per word)

In total this project will consist of around 27 articles (already have the remaining 9) Will use affiliates once established, expecting $20 to $70 for each conversion, main keyword is around 8000 exact, plus longtails may double that

I am thinking that much content should guarantee nice rankings, even if the backlink profile isn't amazing.

Do you think it is worth it to invest that much, just for the content?
How much do you usually spend for the entire content of a site?

$456 for 16k words? If i calculated properly that should cost $160 ($1 per 100 words, but you get discounts probably if you buy bulk).

I think you are investing a lot on content, but then it is fine as long as your are doing the other things right. Make sure you read the guide about the panda update (feeding the panda).

    All the best

Yes that seem to be the most cost efficient prices for english content.
As I am targeting the german market though, articles must be in german as well. My fault, I guess I should have made that more clear.

A german medium quality arcticle: 0,02? per word.
    Means 320? equals $456 =/

Does anyone know of cheaper, good quality, but german article writing services?

i had that problem too, since article writers brought down the prices on EN articles, to make quality articles in other languages cost more.

    More seo with less content?

I'm worried about content quality and relevance of the site.
To me it seems since google panda one has to be extra careful when trying to establish a site that will stay for long.

This is why I am considering to invest in a lot of long content.
Or am I looking at an overkill?

I don't know what quality of writer you're looking for, but you can get some great native speakers at $1/100 words in which case you're looking more at $162 (as commented on earlier) and not $456 ($3.5/100 words).

You should always balance the quality of your content with your SEO so only you can judge right in the end. However, I think you could probably scale back and hire cheaper writers and devote more to SEO.

If it's going to be a quality site, spend the money to get quality work.
If you want a crap site, listen to the above, and settle for crap work.

I have spent several thousand dollars on content writing over the last year. Even if they are sites with a few pages, I always put up a quality site, logo, template and content.

You can't look at is as the amount of money you are spending. You have to look at how long the return will take.... ROI

You could spend 10k on a site but if you get that back in 30 days then it is well worth the expenditure.

You should invest less on content and more in SEO. Once you know that you can get it ranked, thats when you should be adding in more content.

You should make a plan first, like you will invest that much in content, that much on seo, that much on ppc, that much on buying banner space, especially if you are investing $x,xxx+.

Spending significant amount of money on content is such a good thing to do. You are on the right path, mate. I have noticed the advantages of publishing quality content myself on a few of my niche sites as they gained natural links from trusted sites over time. So go for it i say.

i suppose it depends on the niche, but as a 'reader', i don't have the patience to read a 900 word article anyway. i think you should go for shorter articles, that are straight to the point. while there's a lot of people that'll read them, there's also a lot of people that won't.

but like i said, depends on the niche.

It's not much, consider a $4/article, it's 114 articles/website. If you plan well, you can fully cover a medium niche and make it an authority site. spend some more money on link building, article marketing, bookmarking are good
