Doing research on google trends topics I came across several interesting websites which seem to pull their keywords from google trends and then create a mashup of text that I assume they scrape from the front page of google. The main page is usually some artist or painters site but underneither they are running all their google trend links. Yesterday's #1 on Google Trends? "Titivating" This page is currently ranked #4

I know ranking high for "Titivating" is probably not the most impressive thing in the world, but this page is ranked on the front page for a large number of the top 20 trends.

Since they don't appear to be monetizing it, any ideas on the motive. Does something like this bump the main site's PR? It helps the main site become a legit blog down the road? I would have thought that google would shut this down pretty immediately. Any thoughts?

Well its pretty clear none of you guys have virus protection because if you did you'd have noticed the sites place a rather big fuck off gateway trojan on your machines. Your bandwidth is probably being used for all manner of illegal activities by now :D

if you type another one of the google trends in and find one of his pages (normally 1st or second) when you click it it takes you to a dodgy site that my browser wants to block :s

Not sure about the truth to that, but I removed my link just in case. I'm not trying to lead people to a malicious site. Just looking for any insight on this rather unique automated method of gaining massive amounts of traffic from google. I am also interested to see how long something like this is permitted to continue. If its any considerable amount of time, give it a twist and monetize.
