Definitely one of the funniest things that has happened to me, also more interesting..

    So..

I built a website about 2 years ago around a black hat strategy in the entertainment niche. I did alot of blackhat seo (including services from bhw which we all know are full of really strong bh tactics) i ordered some traffic and let the site sit.

Site was penalized, so i just let it go and did not touch it. Tried to sell it and even had the ability to sell it a few weeks ago, but i noticed something..

Immediately after the update, this website launched to #5 on the 1st page!! This is a 20,000 uniques a month niche.

    definitely something weird going on..

The only thing that makes sense is that the site is filled with really good content, black hat shit, but really good content.

    Thoughts?

Just a thought but its possible that the google sandbox maximum time limit you can be "sandboxed" is two years.....

If that were truly the case, given all things equal, my 9 year old domain, with over 3000 pages of unique content and never, ever had off page seo work done, would always have kept it's position 1 or 2 rank which it's held for a long, long time. Where is it now? Out of the top 100 for most of the keywords it was ranking for.

A manual review perhaps? I keep getting the feeling that Google Rater manual reviews are gaining more weight after Penguin. Nothing confied though, it's just a hunch I have.:)

RIGHT let's leave search results in the hands of lots of manual reviewers who have influence and bias... wtf? no search engine does this. and the manual review only makes sense where there's big money involved

You'd be surprised. Back when I was doing this, they had this cross-checking system and very stringent set of guidelines. That was about a year ago though. So any knowledge I have now is pretty much obsolete. Also, lots of trivial sites were reviewed to. As a matter of fact, I didn't know it then, because I hadn't yet entered the world of IM but most of the things I was reviewing seemed to be MFA sites.

Yep... Everyone "just has a feeling" about this update... There's so many theories out there, but google just seems like a really complicated mess currently

Wouldn't this randomness make sense if there was a human factor involved? (Which is to say, real live human beings beating away at their keyboards and taking everybody's rank?)

    Again, just a hunch.

Contento is the Kingo. Maybe Google have selected some sites that have used BH tactics and upranked them to monitor to see what new tactics they apply after the updates. See I really don't know what Google is doing nowadays.
