FINALLY - Instagram had a purge of removing fake followers!
These Instagram purges are a great thing, because it sweeps out the dead cargo on the account. I personally lost +20.000 followers on my account, but I can regain that in a bit more than a week – and then the inactive followers will be replaced with active followers instead. Remember, followers are just a number, and they mean nothing if the engagement is not keeping up. So, a purge will help you to increase your engagement. And why is that?
When you post something, Instagram first shows the post to a fraction of your followers – to test the quality of the post and to know whether or not it is relevant to show to other followers as well. If a high number of the fraction engage with your post, the post will be rolled out to a larger amount of your followers.
So let's say, Instagram first shows the post to 10.000 of your followers. But, 1.000 of them are inactive accounts. This means only 9.000 accounts have a chance to engage with your post.
Now, if the purge removes a large chunk of your inactive accounts, Instagram will now again show the post to 10.000 of your followers. But, since it is now 10.000 ACTIVE followers you have a better chance to get engagement from a bigger percentage of those 10.000, since the inactive accounts no longer affect this outcome. So what does this essentially mean? It essentially mean that your posts have a relatively easier road to virality, – hence greater growth!
NB: The example given above is obviously simplified and is only used to clarify my point.
