My IG account had it going pretty good last year, I went to almost 2k likes per photo (okay, I'm exaggerating a little). Now, it's back to 700 likes, if I'm lucky, around 1k per photo.

I'm still using the same time of the day for photo sharing as before, so, that's not the reason. I'm also getting followers less than before. Like, to get 100 followers, it takes me a few days more than last year (natural growth). I'm afraid it's the competition that's killing me, they're "stealing" my followings.

What would you do now, with an IG account close to 50k followers? And with no budget, if possible. Would you steal followers from others as well even though 'you're this big' (as in # of followers)? I don't think shoutouts from similar accounts would do much, either. And I've never done contests since I've got nothing to giveaway but also, don't want to lose credibility with fake stuff. And my niche doesn't really go in with contests that much. Thanks for the suggestions!

Well, it's 1 year, that's a long time lol i've had tons of accounts that were big back then but now pretty inactive (same drop in engagement like yours)
Best is to just keep building it, shoutouts do help, and thats the only way to grow your account big.
Without shoutouts, nearly impossible to grow your account big (500k+)

i think the longevity of IG followers is pretty short.
for example, some of them graduate from high school or college, get on with different lives, prolly too busy to remember IG.
other than those who try to make something out of IG, what are the reasons to stick around?

i'm not sure what do you mean by that your competitors are stealing your followers, but if you meant that users follow your competitors instead of you, well, that means your competitors do something better than you, so you should start looking for the reasons there and if you feel like that they're stealing from you, why are you hesitating to do the same to them? eye for an eye

Thanks, Thenub. Feels better when I know I'm not the only one & that there's hope. :)

You may be completely right. I also think some of them stop using IG actively or completely leave the app (get bored/uninstall/even die - not an often case).

They're following my active followers. Then they spam them with 4364365 photos a day, while I post as much as I did before - 1 photo a day, rarely more. I noticed already at 20k that when I follow someone, they appear in 1 section (activity or something) of all of my followers, so, this account gets noticed & some of my active followers follow that person. So, that way, I'd be getting & giving out at the same time, if you know what I mean.
