Ok so first, I doubt everyone will believe me, but honestly I don't care. To any of you IM people, I just wanted to show what people will pay. Story starts last Saturday. I am flying to Florida for an unrelated job interview. I find my seat on the plane and start working on writing a paper for school. A little after take off I strike up conversation with the guy next to me. A few minutes in he mentioned he is CEO of a capital investment firm. He tells me how he needs a website, blah blah blah. I show him my sites and figure I might of got a small gig. However, when I go to his competitor site's I open the source code to look at the meta tag keywords I would need to compete with. He sees the code and is surprised, and ask me if I know what I am doing. I start breaking down the SEO on competitors sites, etc. So...the story is pretty boring thus far, right? Then he says, well I am now sure anyone who can do what you showed me (opened the source code) would be able to build me a good site. I said sure, whats your budget. He says he will pay be 250K a year to maintain his site.....(this thing is going to cost me 2K a year max) At this point I am speechless...... Take home messages of the story 1. Sometimes it is easier to charge a very very rich person a shit load of money than doing work for a bunch of average people 2. Be lucky 3. Say/show as much code and terms as possible, it makes the job look much more expensive.
