I have a .info domain that I've been working on for a week and I am still not within even the top 100. I've made sure my on-site SEO was good, and it is in a keyword that has some high competition, but definitely not high enough that I wouldn't even be within the first 10 pages.
Is it the fact that it is a .info domain that is hurting me? Can you rank .info domains as easily as .com, or is there some other trick?

.info or not it take a while for some sites to reach the top 100

Best to get really good backlinks

depends on your keyword. I've heard .info domains suck, but I've also seen them rank in top spots for competitive keywords, so I would say it doesn't matter, just takes good SEO

ive got a few info domains to rank pretty well in mildly competitive niches. I did notice that google seems to take a little more time trusting these domains but within a month or 2 i have been able to grab page one positions. Yahoo and bing don't seem to care, have had first page spots within a week or two on both of them.

I'm not a fan of .infos. In my experience they rank just as well if you can get enough really trusted / social links (ie make it appear that it's a quality site, despite being a .info), but getting them over that threshold until they rank is a lot harder.

I bought a Info domain just end of Dec. and I only did SB blasts and bought 3 packages from SEO providers with mixed links (edu, article, social bookmarkings, SB, article links, blog comments). It would not rank .... then in middle of march I find it on page 3 and like 2 weeks before it was still not in the top 1000.

So all I can advice it keep building links and wait 3 months really.

I think personally I will stick to .com or .org or .net from now on.

infos can rank pretty good but need in my experience always for about 3-5 months until google lets them in top100 . But after that time they are as good as any other domain ending

honestly, don't expect thousands of visitors in the first week..if you think the site is done and ready for the showoff, go and start building a new one...while you're building up new sites, make sure to build some backlinks...for me, contextual links works the best...
i had a .info domain before...registered it in december, and after 2 months it was a PR2..all I did was adding it to some directories and posting up 100% unique content...

Yeah, I didn't expect a bunch of visitors immediately, pages I've made usually start on page 7 - 10 and climb from there. I can still tweak the content a bit to make it better. The content is 100% original. Copyscape shows 100% unique.
It's in a pretty competitive real-estate niche, so it is going to be tough to get it ranking really good.

I have some terrible experience with .info domain .wasted my time getting .info keyword match domains.I'll suggest you to go with .com.org.nets They all work great for me..

In my experience, .info's are junk. They take more effort to rank, they take more time to rank, and they google dance a LOT more.

I would rather rank up a couple .com/.net/.orgs instead of wasting time on a .info

Especially if you are doing Micro Niches, .info is just not worth your time.

If I buy the .net domain for my keywords (it'll be a miracle if it is available...), can I just do a 301 redirect to the .info domain or should I move the server over to the .net?

EDIT: It and the .ORG WAS available, so I snatched them up quick!

I would like to know this too.

I have an .info ranking on page 2 right now. Two days ago the .net domain became available.

What exactly should I do, if I want the .net to rank. Just do an 301 from the .info to the .net domain, thus passing on the link juice? Do I need to copy the content from one site to another aswell?

I think it would be easier for the .net to rank on page one.

you have purchased now.
So do more SEO.
.info can rank higher than .com if proper seo is done.

I'm doing my SEO - Onpage and Offpage.

I did a Linkpush, some high PR Blog Comments, AMR Blasts , HIGH PR Profiles, some Social Bookmarks. All the backlinks then blasted with Scrapebox etc.

But I just found that .com .net and .de are ranking so much faster and higher than the .info -

It's currently at #17 (wasn't even in the Top 50 for the first 3 months) maybe i'll do another High PR Profile Campaign. If it doesn't move to page one, i'm really thinking of trying the 301.

i am really interested in that question, too.
is there a thread already talking about it or does anybody has an answer and can tell us how to do it right without damaging the site?

Agree with him.Info domains ranks harder, idk why. They should be in google eyes as INFOrmational websites, from my point of view

.info's are harder to rank but the tradeoff is that there are more .info EMD's for quality keywords than COM/NET/ORG
