How many of you internet marketers pay for your own health insurance and how better off would you be if you didn't have to?

I pay for my own and although it is a lot, I am fine with the bill. If I was 25, I probably wouldn't have it but at a certain point in life you realize you are not invincible.

I've got two kids, one of whom is disabled, I'm curious as to how it financially effects other marketer's bottom line and if they would be substantially better off if they didn't have to flip the bill for it.

I didn't really want to go down that road since it would bring up political conversation, I'm just more curious than anything. :)

I was also only curious - we don't want to let the politics flame-wars begin :)
    Interesting topic indeed.

My oldest was born with a disability and I did not have insurance at the time. I couldn't even begin to go into how much money I had to lay out back then.

Young, not married, and in generally good health so I don't expect insurance to be to high for me.

I run my own Internet Marketing company and am currently looking into providers for being self employees. Does anyone have any companies they would recommend?

@Pofecker: Thanks for raising the question, I think a lot of us IM'ers could use some answers on this one.

We have a version of FREE health care and for somethings it is great! for others it is terrible. For example you get something wrong with your teeth it can be months before you see a dentist. A long time to wait if you are in pain. So we offset against this with relatively cheap health cover. It seems to work really well.

Disabled children are well looked after in my country. The government foots most, if not all of the bill. but you can still see there are lots of hidden costs that still fall on the parents. I know and have known a few people with disabled children and depending on the level of the disability, the parents seem to be doing it harder than most. I think it is because of the care the child requires makes it harder for both parents to go to work.

Interesting topic, will be very interesting to see how different health systems work around the world. If there is a better one somewhere I might move ;)

I'm a young-ish guy so I pay out of pocket for everything...The biggest expense comes from dental...My goodness, Dentists are expensive.

Although, I've done the math...The amount I would have paid monthly for insurance equals the total I had to pay for my doctor/dental visits...

Conclusion - Lack of insurance isnt as stressful as losing $x,xxx on a bad campaign, lol

Even at $480 a month (and constantly going up) it's worth the cost. You never know when/if you're going to get hit with a diagnosis that could cost you a million dollars in medical care.

You don't really give that many options in the poll.

The company I work for covers 100% of my health insurance. I pay nothing.

Where health care is cheap or free it is worse than where it is not cheap. Rich Europeans go to the States all the time because the quality is a lot higher (and pricier of course). I pay the base rate (covers everything but not the newest procedures and drugs) and pay out of pocket for the fancy things (i.e. at the dentist or the purest antibiotics.

I mean who wants cheap crap even if it's free.

Im 22, I pay for my own. Blue shield is really good for independent insurance, its pretty cheap, at least I think it is. I think its only like $1200 per year w/ a $400 deductable and up to 5 free doctor visits per year and you can pick whatever doc you want. I don't know why its such a big deal here in the US. To me its just like anything else that people sell.. cars, food, rent etc..if you cant afford it, that sucks, find a way. Why be taken care of and kept alive for free?

Haha I love comments like this. Plenty of Americans coming here to have their operations and not because it is cheap. Trust me you guys don't have the best everything in the world, somethings yes but others no.

I pay about $200 a month for me and my family to cover the extras over the free health care the government provides. That entitles me to unlimited cover. So if I get sick tommorrow and my health bill will be $1 mill a year. I am covered. I used to work with a guy taking a drug for early onset arthritis. poor guy is only 24 anyway each course of his drugs would cost $25k yes $25thousand and he had to have a new course every 2 weeks. 50k a month. After government and private health insurance it cost him $35 every 2 weeks for the drug! Anyway I don't think Po wanted this to become a political debate!

I am working full time and employeer does not cover health insurance. Currently paying $600+/mo for the 4 of us. That's one reason I am looking for opportunities doing IM on the side or maybe full time in the future. I have a very little side income also from eGay and TheRiver and helps a bit. Life is tough...!
