incremental/sequential content delivery in Joomla

Hi

Sorry if this has been asked before here, I have looked but can't find anything (plus I've also posted the question on the Joomla site but no reply).

A lot of ppl here suggest using Joomla and AEC (I think that's the abbreviation!) for membership sites and they look like a promising package BUT how are ppl dealing with drip-feeding content to members (so they don't just grab and run)? Is it possible to deliver content in Joomla depending on how long someone has been a member? e.g.

1) member joins today and immediate sees week one content
2) next week they will see "week 2" stuff
3) etc etc

You can use Joomla+AEC+CB+JACL because AEC (Membership component) has integration with CB (Community Builder) for managing user and JACL (Joomla Access Content Level) for managing content so you can have all this component integrate nicely each other.
For time managed content you can create separate user group and assign it manually each time the user reach time limit ie 1 weeks, 2 weeks, etc or you can hack the component to be able to do this automatically.
I am Joomla fan and use it on many of my projects.

Thanks for the reply - obviously don't want to be manually moving people between membership levels if at all possible so will have a look at the JACL component to see how easy it is to mod for something like this

sorry to come back to the topic but I was wandering if you ever found a solution to this. I have the same problem, I'm looking for a content drip/sequential/incremental solution for Joomla.

Any idea? I've searched all over the net, the closest solution seems to be amember with incremental plugin, have not tried it yet.

I came up with my own drip-feed solution by adapting a couple of plugins in the end as there didn't appear to be anything around for that (which is odd)

It's not Joomla compatible, i doubt, but i'm sure it could be modded in some way or at least you can create what you need using this.

personally i would stay away from jacl like the plague and use noixACL instead

1) jacl you have to hack core files to get it it to work - pain in the ass when you need to update
2) the code is encrypted
3) their site is user unfriendly and the documentation is outdated they show it still based on j1.0
4) dont bother trying to get a refund you wont get one
5) it costs yearly (i think)
6) from time to time expect to see gay porn images on the forums posted by disgruntled users!

2) downside it doesnt have much documentation but its not that difficult to implement
3) its not encrypted
4) its free

thankfully j1.6 will include acl features

Thank you for yoru reply, I will look into instantmember.com although an ideal solution would be something tha integrate natively into joomla.

Thank you. It's very informative. I had looked at ninja content timer in the past. that is the closest to drip feed that there is on joomla. Too bad it's a module and not a component.

I will see if there's anyone in getafreelancer that could modify it to a full component.

actually i was discussing this with someone last night and came up with a possible work around...

if you use AEC to handle your users you could always make use of the fall back plan feature - the concept being:

1) use noixacl to setup several groups ie group01, group02, group03, group04, group05, etc
2) create drip feed content and assign each item to a group
3) create several plans and assign the plans to different user groups ie plan01 assigns users to group01, plan02 assigns users to group02, etc (make all the plans hidden from the front to prevent users signing up to plan07 for example!)
4) have users signup and be assigned to say plan01 which will assign them to group01 - set expiration to be a day/week, etc

On expiration have them fall back to plan02 which will change their usergroup to group02 enabling them to access all content assigned to group2...

Have plan02 expire after set time and fall back to plan 03 which assigns the user to group3 and gives them access to that content... and basically repeat the process...

The latest version of AEC requires no hacking of Joomla core files, and supports noixacl which unlike JACL doesnt hack the joomla core files either!

It is a theory but i dont see why it shouldnt work!

That's kind of how I've done mine apart from the fact that I ended up tweaking "JUGA" (in place of noixacl) so that it only allows content at the right time (i.e. been a member for x days) - that way I don't have to mess about with having different membership groups for each week/day of content I want to deliver, so the theory you've posted is sound - I'd just do it a little differently is all

i have a real problem with encrypted scripts especially if it does a call back to a license server - i dont know if you where familiar with APC for community builder but the guy who did that had a great script but it was linked to an IONO license server... worked great and was kinda the core element of one of our sites we did for a client, then the developer completely disappeared along with his licensing setup leaving us pretty much up shit street as the component stopped functioning... it ended up costing us a lot of $$$ to fix it - hence my dislike of this type of setup :(

i believe the same script APC got ripped or rebuilt and was called Proma and that was encrypted with ZEND - thing was when CB upgraded which PROMOA needs to work PROMA wasnt compatible and caused a load of problems again waiting for the developer to update their script, being developers ourselves we couldnt help out cos of the encryption... dont get me wrong i know why developers encrypt and license scripts but when its tentative to a project especially a clients i avoid encrypted addons like the plague!

My copy of JUGA isn't encrypted - can't remember whether it was or not before I got hold of it, don't think it was to be honest - I'm no fan of encrypted stuff either but tbh if I get encrypted scripts I'll do my best to scrap the encryption asap so I know what I'm working with!

FYI for everyone i believe JUGA is also compatible with the AEC payment subscription component too
