    Hey guys,

I just want to share something that may be of interest to you..

I've been pandalized .. and I'm sure a lot of you guys have been too. I've seen my adsense earnings drop .. and drop .. and drop till last December I was only squeezing $1500 (give or take).

Some will say that's still a lot of loot ... for me that's a the lowest payout I had in many years with adsense.

Anyway, as if it wasn't enough that the traffic isn't what it used to be, I get the "we'll give you the boot from adsense" email. They rambled something about high risk of invalid clicks (in english -- invalid clicks haven't occurred, but we feel like it's time to part ways).

Now this is where things get interesting ...

I was too lazy to switch my adsense sites before to better models (why fix it if it's not broken..), but this was a great opportunity to do something more lucrative with my sites.

4 days later, one of my sites bounced from 200 visitors a day to 2000. The only change on my site = no more adsense. I only have now a small (but persuasive) text with an affiliate link as advertising.

All my adsense ads were at the top of the page.

In the following days, a lot of my friends got their adsense sites dropping even more in the search engines. They too, have their adsense ads as close to the top of the page as possible -- it makes sense to give your ads the best position to maximize CTR, now don't it? Well, not really if you're going to get slapped till you have no more traffic ....

I post this here not as a rant ... but because it may provide some useful information for some of you who might be in a similar situation. Got your website severely punished lately? Try no adsense (or other banners) for a week or two and see if it makes a difference .. In some cases, it may be quite unexpected ..

    Gabriel

Sounds almost unbelievable but some of my sites that used to earn good adsense money don't earn enough to fill a tank with gas. Maybe I'll shut off a few sites and see if traffic increases. I have adsense on some ecommerce sites so might be worth a shot to see if traffic increases.

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll let you know.

Glad you like it ... I was kinda surprised myself when it happened to me, but it is what it is. Google doesn't like Google anymore ... lol

    Irony is ironic ;)

    I guess I can try this on one of my websites (using CTRtheme's "Roadblock" layout). It was top 10 for a lot of keywords then purchased a service from here... within the next few days it was in the #900's. -_-;

The first bit you see when the site loads in a browser. IE the bit you dont have to scroll down to see.

As I understand it, having an adsense block above the fold is ok, but having more then one can be problematic. Google still wants to make money, but if you follow the news, their CPCs have been dropping YOY. So what does big G do? They make it so we will not put more then one block above the fold. CTRs drop but CPCs will go up and that makes big G happy. Of course they say its all about user experience, go figure. Cheers Guys.

The OP isn't wrong at all, having too many adsense ads on your website can cause you to get slapped by Panda. I've noticed that with many of my websites and decided to reduce the number of ads when the word was broken out on this forum.

That makes sense... I noticed how my sites were dropping and I had no idea why. Guess I got penalized. Some dropped by 50%. Will make changes and see how it goes...

I'm just ramping up an older site and starting to create new sites - some of which will be based on adsense, some on affiliate... but now I will make sure not to put more than 1 ad above the fold... funny, I 'got that' meaning right away - but that's because I remember what it meant when I was a photojournalist with my college newspaper (literally, above the fold - ie. what people first saw when they picked up your newspaper, before they unfolded the front page).

PS. Would love to hear how the site that the OP took adsense off of is doing with the Aff link... making mo' money now?

Google has been doing a lot of stupid things lately. Make you wonder if anyone in the company has any business sense.

I can see the handwriting on the wall. Once the company flounders they will be scratching their heads wondering what the hell happened.

Do you think sites with affiliate links will get penalized? or is it just adsense? I have one add banner on my site, but its an affiliate link, not an obvious link.
