I run a sports news website that is pretty popular in the Detroit market. We average 1.3 million page views per month and have over 158K facebook fans. We publish on average 150 articles per week and have over 3500 social shares per week. Right now I am using Adsense to generate revenue. We average 1200-1700 per month in revenue. I know this should be MUCH higher. I am wondering where I am going wrong? I have reached out to monitizemore and they claim to have access to better paying advertisers, however, I am skeptical.

I have tried buysellads. I had some success, but nothing near adsense.

What more can I do? I have a mobile specific theme that I serve both responsive and set size ads (the 336x250 and 350x250 ads perform the best overall).

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Sorry, I'm a lot late to this party, but if I were you I would implement some good CPA offers into your website. Peerfly often has offers that might be good for you like "Free NBA Tickets" or things like this, which if you implement effectively then it should make you some serious $$$ :)

Just on the tip of my head:

    - Use crazyegg's heatmap to understand how to optimize your site UX and how to get better CTR for adsense. I haven't hound a better Ad network than adsense so far.
    - Check the quality of your traffic. I'm guessing you have a lot of students as visitors, maybe with adblock, maybe without money to spend? They are good for social sharing but you need other type of traffic too.
    - Find other sources of income. Think of a product that would be great to promote on your site and reach out to them. While adsense is great, you can make much more money this way. Maybe make a contract with some sport betting platform?
    - If you have a email list, use it to make money. Direct mail has high conversion rate and people are willing to spend lots of money for promoting their product this way. Just make sure you don't abuse it since promoting crappy products will lead to lots of unsubscribing.
