Try putting the ads in the content instead of all around it. Don't spam the ads everywhere but experiment with that, i havent used adsense in a while but you can definitely increase your clicks.

Well it is hard to say just looking at that image, but it looks pretty unappealing to me.
What is your bounce rate like?
I didn't think image sites were great for adsense.

    Here are some tips:

    Bright colours
Light colours - white or light grey
Keep it neutral, make the focus the ads

I get 10-20% CTR and RPM is £40+.

Some niches don't click as much, bare that in mind.

    The best tip:

Plonk 2 large rectangles below the horiz menu, above the content. Websites these days often have content sliders, and people ALWAYS look at them. This doubled my CTR overnight.

    Thanks for that.

So two rectangle ads where my horizontal text ad is that the moment? i'll try that.

Would you recommend both text ads or image? or a mix? I find that image get low CTR.

You say that to keep the colours neutral and light. Do you recommend I change the colour of the website? This was something I wanted to do as I think the dark colours I have at the moment are not helping.

Yeah it looks pretty shit but bare in mind that I have blocked out a lot on the text and images, so looks better in real life.

    Take a look at this:

    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...ple-change-gave-me-20-ctr-20-day-100-day.html

I did a case study on it.

I recommend you change the whole theme. You'll want something light and airy, not something dark and claustrophobic .

I also find images have higher CPC, but lower CTR, and overall lower RPM. Making the ads look like a massive menu/banner works great! :)

Thanks mate. That's some impressive numbers.

If I could get that type of ctr with my traffic numbers I'd be making some money!

Going to experiment with the two rectangle ads above the content now and change the colours tomorrow.

Another thing, I noticed on your text rectangle text ads don't match your websites colour scheme (they still look nice though) but is it not better to blend the ads in to the site?

OP why not learn how to do A/B testings? Is like learning how to fish. You will be able to feed yourself.

this is a forum is it not? Asking questions is what its all about no? I have no one else to ask, so i'll ask on here if you don't mind.

My offline business is very labour intensive, I work long hours. I only have an hour or two a day to work on my site which is very much a hobby at the moment, so I need to save as much time as possible and use what little time I have effectively.

I am not an expert but I am pretty sure it is your ad placement and the color around your ad banner, it just looks too out of place.

And that area often becomes banner blindness: here's an interesting research if you'd like to ready:

    http://www.nngroup.com/articles/banner-blindness-old-and-new-findings/

Like I agree with Ardley216, you should change the whole theme, try looking for Adsense themes. Hope it will fix the problem.

This is a forum not an Q&A website. Others people times is valuable too, and for some people this is their career not a hobby. But with that attitude, you will go far. Have a good day.

Yes and no. I've found that different things affect the CTR quite a lot. I'm using a similar, but different theme for a different website and never gets over 10% CTR, and when I changed to the previously used theme, it shot up to 15%, even though the themes looked very similar.

I recommend to do lots of testing, what works for me may not work for you. Set up some A/B tests, change the theme for 1 week, change the ad placement for 1 week, change the colours for one week. at 0.5% CTR, aim for 5%. that would put your daily income to £15 :)
