I have articles on my site that get 4,000+ views each but people comment very sparsely even though the content is good. I think one of the turnoffs is that there are too many fields to fill out, which is standard in Wordpress: name, email, website, comment. I see that Disqus is quite popular with a lot of sites though.

What are the best way to increase comments? beside the obvious, like making sure content is exciting and makes people wanna comment
How is your experience with Disqus or other plugins?

    Thanks.

Disqus, Keywordluv and similar types are welcoming to the spam comments, so yes for the comments these are good plugins.

    Mcr,

I would say that using disqus would help. You could also place calls to action at the bottom of your posts that encourage people to comment. For example asking a question related to the content you have on that page and then saying something like "join the conversation by commenting below" or whatever.

    Here are some other tips,

    Hope that helps,

Dude, Make a list of your niche related blogs and some other blogs. Note down all the blog URL's into a file and leave valuable comments on these blogs regularly. It helps to build better relationship with niche related blog owners. If you leave valuable and interesting comments then they will show interest to know about you and your site. If they like your comments then they will comment on your blogs.

    Good Luck!

I still prefer the comment section with name, email, website. It attracts a lot of seo junkies to leave a comment with their website.

My guess is - you will see decrease in comments if you install Disqus. Why?

    - People are generally too lazy to register
    - Those who already registered often are willing to act differently across different websites, and Disqus forces them to be themselves always
    - People feel less private with Disqus and wouldn't openly touch certain topics
    - Disqus is more a fashion thing right now, than a useful platform

No doubt, I also prefer the wordpress way that allows you to put your name, email and website, that is very much suitable for seo

Disqus may not help, since it doesn't have crawlable backlinks.

Disqus will can decrease the comments why because most of the comments generate by those users who just want to post their link so they haven,t time to register then confirm the account and after this long process they post the link. so it is better to use the name, website and email information for commenting or more better use wordpress.

Disqus is seo friendly too, it gives best results lowering down the spam comments as lot of people only do comments for putting their links, so in case you dont want that, disqus is perfect partner :)
