Ok guys so I have a really strange problem, 3 weeks ago I got a message in my webmaster account that my website increased in not found errors (404) . I didn't check my account at that time so I didn't see the message and everything was ok until 1 week later when I got the same message again and 5 of my keywords dropped 200-300 positions, and 4 of them remained the same (increased in time) . Anyway, after the 2nd message I checked all the errors and fixed them and submitted my sitemap again and waited for google to update again but so far the rankings for those 5 keywords didn't come back, and the keywords that haven't been affected had increased . Any ideas or suggestions here ? Thank you .

There were a lot of algorithm updates recently. The drop may not be related to the 404's. Also if it is related to the 404's it may take a few weeks for Google to get crawl everything and get re-calculate your sites ranking for those words.

If the dropped keywords are targeted only for the home page then you need to wait for few more time, if it is for the inner pages then start creating backlinks. Mostly these type of errors are always drop the rankings sooner or later. So, make sure to check everything before you resubmit the site map.

Yeah, I fixed everything and I re-submitted the sitemap again but I still get 1 or 2 errors now an then, errors that were already fixed and I just mark them as fixed . The keywords that dropped indeed were targeting only the homepage .
