I think it as a silly question but then I start thinking it how Google will think if www is missing?

Please let me know if I'm purely wrong and if not then correct me where I'm thinking wrong!

Example: -

Site 1 - xyz.com
Site 2 - www.xyz.com

both have ssl certification attached but which one will be more reliable?

Unless you have some unusual setup where www is hosted on a separate server, both will be equally reliable, and both will be equally unavailable if there are server issues.

Form an SEO perspective, if you already have backlinks pointing to one version or the other, it would be best to stick with that version. But if this is a fresh domain with no backlinks, it's entirely a personal choice.

It's not having that much presence online but year it's around 4-5 years old and it is without www so should I left it as it is or I should change back with a www

If you want to switch to WWW, go ahead, but the change will be purely cosmetic, you won't gain any SEO advantage from the switch.

if you use both www. and non-www then that will count as duplicate page, so I suggest you to go with one, now I am using "www" only
If your htaccess is set up properly, it shouldn't be possible for Google to index both the WWW and non-WWW versions of your site.

It does not matter much, but if the domain is short - like 5-7 characters then with www. it may look better, if the domain is long with more characters then I wouldn't add www. with it.
its of 7 characters..

I was going through the top kists of websites on google and I didn't get any website which is without www organically!

So that is main reason I had this thing in my mind!

For a corporate site with many internal subdomains and separate server clusters, WWW does provide a few advantages. And since corporate sites tend to have more SEO power, they often rank above the relatively smaller non-WWW sites.

But correlation does not imply causation, and these advantages have absolutely nothing to do with SEO. Your ranking will not increase if you switch to WWW, and switching improperly could even cause a temporary drop in your ranking as the crawler re-indexes your site.

When I first registered a site at the start of this year I didn't have SSL, and didnt have non-www redirected to www. after a few months of setting up I added SSL so redirected from non-secure to secure but left non-www without the redirection.

I thought that people would be more used to www so using www would have better effect but from comparing the 2 I have slightly better conversions from the non-www.

Actually, xyz.com would be your root domain and www.xyz.com would be your subdomain. Ideally you'd want to set a 301 redirect to whichever is stronger. To check that go to majestic and check the TF and CF for both the root domain and the subdomain and use accordingly.
