Inadvertantly Got 200+ Links from 1 Domain - Has Google Frowned Upon This?

I signed up to a forum many years ago, filled in all my profile details including a link to a page on my website. I assumed this website link was just something that showed up on my profile but it seems that it is attached to every single post I make (it is a forum where if you hover over the username, a drop down list appears with "visit my website" as an option). I've notched up several hundred posts over the years and my Webmaster tools now shows 250 links from this one domain with the next highest domain being 7. Do you think Google may frown upon this in anyway? There is a reason for me asking as this one page on my website has recently plummeted from a very stable #15 to #250 on Google. Happened on 17th Jan when there was all this talk of an update so possibly related to that but the rest of my site seemed to get a boost, all except this one page and the only thing that looks different to all the others is this large percentage of links from one domain. Since the drop to #250, it's now gone up to #170 but still a huge knock for a single page?!

Just login to that forum and remove the link from your profile, hopefully google will forget about the links.

I assume from what you say that you think Google may be dropping my ranking due to this link? I was considering removing it but it may be having a positive effect and it is something else that has made this page plummet.

All things being equal, your posts were something you wanted to do. What is unnatural is what is punished. There is nothing wrong with forum links or any other link if such a link was legitimately acquired. I'm thinking that your 200 plus posts were not done in one day.

Don't listen to too much noise online about backlinks. A backlink is good for you especially if it is natural. Unless you are selling flowers and your forum is porn. Now that's another thing all together.

Wow - this is exactly the same as a thread I posted a few seconds ago - (note to admin - you can delete if you want - its here: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/525739-500-links-one-site-mine-ok.html) Same thing with me - but mine if from ONE website, basically the guy that linked to me (organically) put me on the main site template so every URL on their site - say about 500 pages plus links to me. Im thinking that its ok - i guess the key thing is whether or not the site was porn or weaner growing etc etc
