    Many on dot net. The ones that exclude the dot net trap are things like scrapebox and xrumer. So the best thing to do is, if you want to make a proper program that has extra ordinary than move off dot net (go into C++, Java, Delphi etc). Else go for dot net if you wanna make some quick moneh.

    Dot net = Microsofts programming language. VB.Net / C# or C++(.Net version)

    Those are pretty easy to get grip of and do provide ready made libraries that you would require. Like webbrowser control (most needed in IM software) and other stuff. Thinks like login one website can be made in 10mins on C#/VB.net

    Here is something that might work.
    Code:
    webbrowser1.goto("http://google.com")
    webbrowser1.getelementbyid("google")
    etc etc

    I suggest you start off with VB.Net/C#
    Twitter program wont need much functionality except to store some information and submitting some fields. (Maybe even some scraping)

    There are tutorials all over youtube, lemme see if I can find it.

    I'd say start with basic C and then change and focus on C#.. Master those 2 and other languages will be easier to learn

    Just my 2 cent

    Great designs are useless, it's the functionality that counts. Unless of course you want to sell stuff based on its exterior. I've seen stunning code (rootkits) made with VB 4 even.

    That being said, the language itself seems pretty unimportant today for beautiful user interfaces. Usually these are just visual packs / controls made by others. Some are free and some can be very expensive like 100s or even 1000s of $$$.

    Here's one example: componentfactory.com/toolkit_dialog_forms.php

    So don't make the mistake to think a language can have visual advantages by just seeing a great looking form made with that language.

    I'd go for VB.net or C# ... easy to learn and a lot of tutorials and forums where you can get extra information on it.... The express versions are also completely free
