I feel terrible for your client.

You have a "client" who's a dentist and you don't even know how to do basic keyword research for local SEO?

Thats the name of the game in local SEO. Find what states / counties / towns you want to target then optimize your sites pages for those keywords and rank for them.

Your lucky your client is a dentist because after he knocks your teeth out for fucking up his site, he can fix them for you before he knocks them out again.

If I am so funny then what the hell is this lol

Why don't you just try and rank him for the word "dentist" because then he will have people coming to see him from all over the world :p

    You're missing the point.

If you're asking this question then in my mind you are more or less scamming this dentist. Hire someone that knows what they're doing to carry out the work and quit while you're ahead.

    Hey OP,

Yes you definitely should include the location that your dentist practices in.

So lets say his office is in Seattle. So the keyword you'd most likely want to target for him would be Seattle Dentist.

You can also use the keyword tool to find other search variations that have good search volume worth targeting.

First of all, do a keyword search with city, state or country name in Keyword Planner e.g. best dentist california, top dentist california etc. and see if there are any searches, sure there will be. Otherwise, use the city name with generic keywords e.g. if the keyword is best dentist, then add city at the end by your self.

On page optimization matters a lot, remember. you should include city, state names in on page.

Never repeat to make it look natural as an example im working off a 136 variation keyword file that I made a few days ago it is all for one keyword in a town. E.G.

    Dentist seatle
    dentist Seatle, Wa
    dentist seatle, wa 98101
    dentist seatle, washington
    dentist seatle, washington 98101
    best dentist seatle
    best dentist washington
    best dentist wa
    dentist washinton
    dentists wa
    dentists seatle
    dentists seatle, wa

and on and on and on you can do this for hundreds of keywords before you ever have to repeat. Also quality trumps quantity is 2x true for local results. Your local business page is also the fastest thing your going to rank before your site.
