Now I'm not crying because of it, I also know that to make money you need money, but I still feel kinda bad comparing how google was 2+ years back and comparing with how google is right now.

I personally was one of lucky bastards that started early and managed to rank some stuff with GSA alone so I eventually started having a consistent income stream which allowed me to re invest.

However google nowadays, even very long LSI like I'm going for are still "hard" to rank for, by hard I don't actually mean hard but rather, you only rank them if you have the resources to do so.

Someone starting out just can't rank them. Hell, in my recent journey tried 6 different services ~100$ of worth each, each of them targetting different articles and keywords on low competition niches (where top results have less than 30 DA and less than 25 PA) and only 1 or 2 services managed to get a keyword into top 10 (top 8 being the best) and as we all know, only top 3 actually gives you any money.

Which further shows how right I am, if you don't have at least 200$ to invest in SEO to rank a 500-2000 MS keyword then you're simply not going to rank it into top 3 and make money. (Unless you use tools but they dont work as well as they used to)

This is what I mean by low competition:

    Example 1:

For this keyword I'm ranked #8 with an article that far surpasses any other, I'm the only website in the top 10 targetting this keyword in title / desc / content and as you can see the competitors aren't even that strong.

    Example 2:

For this one I'm ranking #14 and although my article isn't the best it's still better than 9 out 10 when compared with the current top 10, I'm also the ONLY website targetting this keyword in title desc / content. I also sent 5 PBN posts from my own network towards this post.

Would like you to keep in mind that this is not a complaint thread or anything of the sort, it's just to show you how ridiculous and competitive SEO has become over the years, these are just 2 examples of rankings obtained using 100$ packages on very low competition niches, and these are the best 2 results I've obtained out of the 6 100$ packages I've tried, the other 4 weren't as good as these ones, which leads me to believe that to rank top 1 a single 1000-2000 MS keyword I would need to invest 200-300$ into SEO. And as we all know 1000-2000 MS is nothing, even while ranking other longtails along side it won't give you a groundbreaking monthly profit.

I'm working on ranking an amazon affiliate site LTP score of 19 and I'm on my third PBN package and I just barely hit top ten. The struggle!

Thats the difference between buying links and building links relevant to your site. Buying links is a waste of time and money.

Well obviously making your own niche relevant PBN is better than buying public PBNs however not everyone has the time, knowledge or means to do so.

I do have the means thankfully however not everyone has and that's exactly what I mean with this post

I know bro. My point is if you are spending $100+ on links, you can easily get more relevant pbns for that amount and they will get you better results man! :)

For me they cost like 30$/ year each since I can fin them myself just need to pay the registrar and hosting.

I wish there was a relevancy case study though, I have plenty of domains on storage to be used with amazing metrics and links but they're not relevant.

I think it highly depends on the niche + service combination. I've had keywords with 25-30-35 competitive values hitting #6-4 spots on first page by utilizing only 1 PBN service. Altough I do admit that I was building links manually and concentrated on the social aspect as well.

So the problem is not that it's harder to rank. The problem is that it's harder to determine what will rank easier than others. So basically the competition analysis has changed fundamentally.

Btw the values that those keyword competition analyser sites give are not that accurate.

You are right somehow. What was working few years back is no longer invoke. Back then, ranking was easy and funny enough, we complain then. And right now we are still complaining :D

We will complain about this 2016/2017 in 3 years time. We will say ranking in '16/'17 was easy.

Personally, I have tried a lot of services here and I have in my hands service(s) that 'might' rank me in the top 10. Don't rely on one service to rank your page. I combine 2 - 4 service before hitting top 1 to 5. And it could take 4 months to achieve this.

Some naysayer keep saying service(s) here don't work - I wish I can show screenshots of my adsense/amazon accounts and my flipping accounts - all thanks to bhw.

    Keep it going.

SEO is very expensive. It used to be cheap 10, 15 years ago. Nowadays it's a premium service and as we can all tell, lots and lots so called pros have no idea what they're doing.

I've read that buying PBN services is a big no-no if you want your rankings to last. Are they widely used here on BHW?

I was considering trying them but I heard elsewhere that they can actually do more harm than good since google is always aiming to reduce their effectiveness.

Google can aim all they want. Of course they are effective and if you want to rank for some half decent keyword, you will have hard time to do it without them.

Outsourcing them however is quite risky, but any kind of SEO involves risk basically. The fact that you are careful with your SEO doesn't make you completely safe, only safer.

To some other posts here. LTP score... please, do yourself a favor and don't use automated tools to determine how hard/easy the keywords is. These are so off most of the time I want to lie in bed and cry.

And regarding the niche relevancy of the sites. I think relevancy here on the forum is very overrated. I would take stronger domain any time of the day if it has at least somehow similar topic with my money site or can be rebranded into something else. People who want niche relevant domains from niches like parenting, home improvement, even health, can basically do nothing except spending a lot for auction domains. It's almost impossible to find any of these niches clean with decent strength by scraping.

I can relate to what you're saying, going back 3-4 years I was able to churn and burn videos/websites to the front page, the only investments: Domain, proxies, VPS for some software's (Yes, the GSA was badass).

I remember being able to take competitive keywords (BH niches) and would monetize them with CPA offers, it was pretty damn easy once I'd mastered the software settings.

Offtopic - Blasting videos back then was the easiest way to get fast results, anyone remember the social bomber software on here! ;) I forget the complete name but that along with some other social signal methods made me some big $$$.

These days however shit has changed that's for sure, PBN'S cost money and take MUCH longer to get results as well, so not for the inpatient. Everything costs money.

These days, the whole concept behind PageRank -- "recursively propagating weights through the link structure of the web" -- is just a small component of how Google creates the SERPs. "Links" standing alone are virtually useless. Contextual links from sites with topical authority are sometimes helpful... and in some SERPs still useless. I've never seen links matter less than they do today, at least when it comes to the competitive searches. I can get 30+ high-authority contextual links to a particular page and it'll do no better than it did to start -- but if I tinker with the keyword density, viola, it'll move a page or two up or down.

Here's an example for a page on a relatively high authority site for a highly competitive search. These are impressions and position over the past 90 days. First circle is when I got an organic contextual link from a high-authority site, which did pretty much nothing. Second circle is God-knows-what, I haven't been able to figure it out, there were no new links in GSC to it, nothing unusual with the site, etc, but the rankings for this tanked. Third circle is when I said "fuck it" and ramped up the keyword density of the article and the headings:

    upload_2017-1-14_17-10-56.png

This is stupid, it's the exact sort of thing Google says won't happen. I assume this idiocy won't last forever, but who knows?
