    Hi everyone,

    2 questions related to youtube:

#1 I've heard rumours that for some phrases, google just doesn't include youtube videos in the top spots in universal search. Is this true?

#2 Is it possible to rank for multiple variations of a keyword? For example could a youtube video titled:
"How to train dogs at home" also rank for "train dogs" and "train dogs at home"

Thanks for any help in advance!

#1 Yes, certain videos will never rank on page 1 of Google. Like one type of video would be a local business video. Say you wanted to target "home remodeling NJ" .... chances are very high that google would never rank a YT video on page 1. However, for more "isolated" home remodeling niches (I'm not giving examples since I'd be revealing my niches), you can. The problem in those niches, your video is usually limited to ranking on the bottom of page 1. The highest I've ever gotten a video is position 8, and after that no matter how much I backlinked that video, it wouldn't go any higher.

Other examples would be medical conditions that Google considers really serious. Like "how to prevent a heart attack" or "how to cure diabetes". Those are VERY common and serious illnesses, so Google is more likely to display reputable health websites on page 1 rather than a YT video from some random person with no medical experience. Same thing with a term like "how to cure bipolar disorder". Google doesn't want idiots from YT telling people not to take medication and to buy xxx ebook that will cure their illness. However, once you get into the realm of those "weirder" not so serious problems, the rules change. Like if you want to rank for "how to improve eyesight".... thats not really a serious problem in Googles eyes. Lots of people may have bad vision, but very few people ever go blind.

Keep in mind, this is not a standard rule or anything. They're just trends I've noticed. I've found keywords for serious illnesses, where if you change just one word, Google will rank you for it.

#2 Is it possible to rank for multiple variations of a keyword? 100% the answer is YES. I have one video that ranks for 3 very competitive keywords. They are all root variations of one basic phrase. But each brings in its own steam of traffic. Originally there use to be a separate video for each keyword, then my video took over 3 separate competitors. However, I had to build about 5 times the amount of backlinks. And it didn't happen all happen at once. It took over 1 video first, a couple weeks later another video, then a few weeks later it took over the 3rd video. And I tried to keep my anchortext the same for each keyword. So there was no real primary anchor text when I did my campaigns, just 3 keywords all weighted by the same %. I don't believe that is necessary though. Whats most important is that you build A LOT of backlinks.

Thanks for that really helpful reply spiderblast. So even when ranking for keywords at #8 on the serps, do you still see considerable traffic from google to the video? Also, what tool do you use to track the ranks of these videos? Finally, you metioned 'A LOT' of backlinks. By this, do you mean quantity over quality? I was looking at some of the packages in the marketplace such as Sherlock Holmes pack, it looks like it could really boost a YT video up there?

Finally, how long do you normally wait for your youtube videos to rise up the serps?

    Thanks again;)
